getting a song on mj
Thursday, November 22 2007 @ 08:38 AM CST

Hi
so I've done my first draft of a song in GB. Stuck it in itunes so it's a track.
Now not too sure how I get it onto MJ page.
If it's MP3 only how do I do it.
I dragged the file onto the desktop and it saved as an AIFF.
Then I tried to open and save in Quicktime. Opened fine but I don't have full /latest version of quicktime to allow saving.
Do I have to buy it...or is there an easier way to do this?

1) Open the aiff file in iTunes.
2) Open iTunes preferences, go to Advanced, then select Importing.
3) Change the Import Using drop down menu to MP3.
4) Then choose a bitrate - 128kbps is usually sufficient for sites like this.
5) Click Ok to save/close preferneces.
6) Click the (aiff) song in your iTunes list and highlight it.
7) Click on the Advanced menu and select "Convert selection to MP3."

This will convert the file and create a NEW one, leaving your aiff file intact.

The simplest way is select 'send to iTunes' from GB Share menu. This will give you an aiff in iTunes. Next step is to highlight the aiff track and select 'convert selection to mp3' from iTunes Advanced menu. Then I usually drag the mp3 to my desktop where it's easy to select when you come to uploading to MacJams.

To upload the file to MacJams click 'Submit Song' from the My MacJams box (top left on most MacJams' pages and click the appropriate Choose File button (there's one for artwork as well).

I would also recommend opening the mp3 in iTunes after you convert the aif, then command click the mp3 and select get info and fill out the information on the info tab. iTunes will write that stuff to the mp3 when you click OK. You can even load artwork and lyrics in there.
