DAW Recommendations
Friday, September 08 2017 @ 09:30 AM CDT

Looking to upgrade from GarageBand... the application is primarily for recording acoustic guitar, but I also want it versatile enough for singing, rapping, sampling, etc.

Pro Tools? Logic Pro? Others?

Pros and cons, please and thank you.

GO!

Logic is very affordable, extremely powerful, and it can import your Garageband files.

Every DAW has its own workflow. You may have a preference for one or another, but that's hard to discover from someone else's sayso.

Logic Pro is a great value. There's a slight learning curve when moving from GarageBand, but for the majority of basic production tasks it can be understood in a day or two.

Beyond the basics, Logic Pro is damned near bottomless. The stock synths and samplers are extremely versatile and the sample library is extensive. The stock production tools are sufficient for all but the most demanding mastering tasks.

Getting started with Logic Pro X (playlist):

Ditto.   You get much more than your money’s worth from Logic.
