RIP Mose Allison
Wednesday, November 16 2016 @ 04:46 PM CST

What a year of loss. Now Mose Allison. I remember seeing him back in 1974. Oddly enough - he was the opener for George Carlin at The Philadelphia Academy of Music. They both were wonderful.

He's cracking self-depricating jokes, he's lampooning the appropriation myth, deflating the class conflict meme, and shuffling his ass off all at once... Not bad if you can get away with it... And he did it all before it was kool. Best compliment? Mose was righteous... just listen.

Mose has been in my top ten for many years. Probably the best lyricist of his generation. He makes you laugh at all of our many faults. A great jazz piano player as well. If nature had granted him a stronger voice he would have been a super star.
