Amazing Transformations

Can you call out some amazingly different interpretations of the same song?

My wife and I have volunteered at the box office of the RockyGrass Bluegrass Festival for many years.   (Although, for various unrelated reasons, not this year).   It was there that we encountered Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Scaggs playing together, showing-off songs from their latest project.

One of the songs they played was Bruce’s signature hit, That’s Just The Way It Is.   Uh huh.   But not the way that you have ever before heard it.

That wasn’t the strangest thing that we heard that night, however.   That prize would have to go to their rendition of ... Super Freak.   (Uh huh, that campy novelty tune.   “She’s sup-er freak-y, yow.”   Yeah... that one.)   But, once again, they pulled something completely-different out of that tune ... something that you didn’t even know was there.   In fact, it positively wasn’t “strange” at all, “and that was the point.”

I absolutely love it when an artist ... or group of artists ... can do that.

Try The Civil Wars version of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. I always thought it brought out what a great song and melody it was.

Good one! A dynamic take that is so different than the original.

This is a very cool tribute from Norah Jones to Chris Cornell doing a version of Black Hole Sun as only she could.
