Guilty pleasures
Monday, November 21 2005 @ 12:15 PM CST

In the Enya's Reverb forum discussion, Epileptic Gibbon asked an interesting question.

Quote by: Epileptic Gibbon

Are there any other guilty or uncool pleasures out there? Who else do you like, musically speaking, who you're not supposed to?

In the on-going quest for MacJammers to get to know each other better and to provide potentially embarrassing information about ourselves to the community, I thought this would make an interesting topic.

As for myself, I have a growing collection of songs by former Star Trek stars including, of course, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy (you gotta love his version of "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"), Nichelle Nichols and Brent Spiner (the two who can actually sing). The collection also includes various sound clip remixes I have come across and Trek-related tunes.

This makes me a hero among many of my friends, but a big ole geek to the normal population.

I also have all the albums Adam Ant has released in the U.S., his box set, various songs from compilations, the collection of his videos and several movies he has starred in.

I'm sure there's more embarrassing stuff in my collection that I've just forgotten about.

Anyone else?

But then, how many of us had any taste at all in the '80s? Cool

Hey! I was stylin' back in 198? with my pastel pink pants, my electric blue shirt and my grey cotton jacket with, of course, the sleeves rolled up to my elbows, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Thompson Twins playing in the Sparkomatic cassette player I installed in my 1973 Chevy Nova...

Oh, jeez, did I actually tell you people that....

I think certain heavy metal bands. I don't like thrash or numetal or korn type rubbish at all, but a bit o' vintage Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, or Withchfinder General, well, that stuff just rocks.

Oddly, Iron Maiden seem to have been allowed entry into the 'credible classic rock' category by the music press. Anything becomes cool if you wait long enough.

I'd rather be listening to Revolving Doris's new EP.
