I really think that you are going to see this “health care (sic) bill” go down, and in its place I predict that you will see a major public demand for what the English and the Canadians have had for decades:   health care, as a public service with regulated costs and no profit motive.

For about twenty-five years, the “for profit” people have been telling us how good it was going to be.   The Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) put one of its family members – whose brother is the CEO of the company – into the United States Senate.   But, what do we have to show for “for profit” health care paid-for through “for profit” insurance:

F - A - I - L !!!

Failure for shareholders, certainly failure for patients.   The numbers don’t work.   The entire financial concept of it is intrinsically flawed and unredeemable, and it runs in the face of what this industry’s mission is actually suppose to be.   B’damned if I want our Government to pay billions of dollars of no-strings-attached public cash to try to prop-up an obviously dead horse.

Medical bills are the number-one cause of bankruptcy in the United States.   Well, if we now pay billions of dollars a month to pay for killing people halfway around the planet, we can spend far less to take care of people at home.

Twenty-five years of telling us how good it was going to be, and with nothing but ruin to show for it now ... fellas, your time is up.

The Fourth of July is no day for despair. It’s a day to remember that our system, though vulnerable to a charlatan such as Trump, is robust and resilient. Eventually he will be tossed or voted out. And the star-spangled banner yet will wave.

But, on the other hand, perhaps the system is far more resilient and adaptable than we – or, the Washington Post – actually imagine that it could be.

Yeah, we know that the Washington Post is the very newspaper which brought down “Tricky Dick” Nixon, but a consequence of this is that the WP sees in Donald Trump nothing more than another trick.   In particular, it sees him, and reviles him, as a “fake-hero President.”   A charlatan.   A fool.   And, most of all, an imposter.

But ... what if he is somehow none(!) of these?

What if he is the 21st Century’s first 21st Century President?   What if the electorate elected him to overturn the norms that the Washington Post (and, Washington in general) holds dear?   What if the people of the United States voted this man into office on purpose (?!?!?!?!!!) ... (!!!!!!)

What if the revolutionary political system that our Founders put into place is(!) both dynamic and adaptable enough, “robust and resilient enough,” to have planned for(!), and enabled(!) ... precisely this(!) turn of events?!   :-O

Remember:   our Founders were very-experienced political radicals.

The Washington Post is completely blinded by the nostalgic thought of “tapes,” and by their fundamental assumption that the electorate could not possibly have done ... what they did.   They completely missed the real problem – that a very-few misguided precincts adopted electronic voting machinery that is un-auditable after the fact – and clung to Washington’s favorite stereotypical boogerman ... “the USSR Russians” ... for no particular reason except that “Russian meddling” might somehow bring: Madame Presidente.

I kindly submit that this blindness has, indeed, blinded them.   Because their entire world-view exists within what is ... in fact ... a very narrowly-confined(!) box, they are incapable of seeing anything outside of it.   Well, I suggest, it is high time that they learned.

“Our system,” last November, did something that no fossilized pundit of the preceding equally-fossilized political order could ever have predicted, albeit only because they could not bring themselves to see.   However, in doing so, “our System” was actually working as designed!

Absolutely ... the Officeholder has a bucket of personal flaws!   (Is everyone on earth incapable of giving him a break?)   But he just might be “Release 2.0.0” of our country’s new (and, much elevated!) expectations of what public officers at the Federal level are now expected to be.   A sea-change has occurred, accompanied by inevitable implementation hiccups that should not continue to be our primary focus of attention.

The reason why he appears to be “bumbling and misguided” is that he is looking at his Office from the point-of-view of a man who was not “steeped in it.”   And, I think, this is precisely(!) why the American People threw him into this lion’s den.

These aren't "what if" questions anymore. What norms were it that you expected to be overturned? We can actually assess this administration's behavior and policy proposals to determine the intent.

In any event, I don't think an of abundance dignity from the officials who represent our nation to the world was something bemoaned by the electorate.

"Appears to be?" He's spent 20% of his time in office on the golf course. One out of every five days. If the problem was a learning curve I'd think a rational person would at least devote some overtime to the job. Incompetence is neither a virtue nor an asset.
