Something about this time of year brings out the darkness. This is my dirge. My darkness.

The funeral parade makes it's way to the graveyard. Again. More frequently now. Things are getting worse.

God save us all.

ghost train
I like the sound of the train in the background.

Yes, it's dark, but also really pretty and relaxing.

This track would be great in a Movie.

Sounds almost like a Russian March. Very dark and foreboding. Nice and
moody setting. Nice change of pace when the percussion and the bass
drops out. The ending is very cool and creepy! Nicely done.

my criticism
there is a contradiction between the spatial effect of pads and fx and
the more organic sounding organ and piano that doesnt strenghten the
track. Rather they play against each other resulting in a kind of weak
aesthetic that is amplified by the tracks simplicity. it doesn't seem to
be more than an excercise in patterns and in that sense it has no
strong emotional value. To me it seemed rather basic.

Weak Aesthetic
Just read your bio, Pointdexter.

I bet you are great fun at parties, huh? Instead of a bio you have merely listed your accomplishments - most of which have little to do with music.

I understand you might very well be as smart as you think you are but you'd do well to crawl out of your own ass and try to feel a bit more instead of think.

seeing both perspectives
I haven't yet had someone tear me a new one on a track
yet, so I can't imagine how i'd react...but my first thought
was that you were a little harsh about chris bennie's
comments. He's a brand-new member, so he couldn't
possibly have a firm grasp of the MacJams culture. (His account
was created on the same day of his comment.)

It was easy for me to slip into the hypnosis while listening
to Procession, so I think chris was missing something...you're
right. But lashing out like that could drive someone away forever,
robbing us of the chance to hear what he sounds like.

I like your pattern-play, CIPHER, and I think it has emotional
value. If anything gets in the way of percieving it, I think it's
the instrumentation...but that doesn't stop me from liking it.

Thanks for the rage check, screaming.

This guy pissed me off - that's true. I can listen to heaps of criticism about the technical merits of my music. Hell, half of what I do is metal cheese. Some of my mixes could be better, a lot of it is too busy etc.

What I have a hard time accepting is some clown making objective statements on subjective issues. He wrote his critique like it was God's truth and not merely his opinion.

I'm glad you made your comment about the spirit of this community. Some of us are Beethovens and Dylans but most of us are just hacks who like music and love the Mac.

I don't know if there's a place for someone who takes himself so seriously and thinks that there is such a thing as absolute truth.

Hey KDub, I've been meaning to come around and comment on your
stuff (parenting priorities, remember? ;)

I read the comments above, regrettably -- I always hate the
preconceived stuff that clouds the open mind before listening (or while
listening) to songs here. The thing is, you clearly denote this as
"abstract/experimental/fx", which, to Miss Chaos, means "anything
goes". Experimental is derived from "experiment". Your experimental/
abstract song here is really nice. Dark. You were spot on in your song
description. I really like the buzzy, bending synth texture. You do a
heck of a job with layering sounds in the foreground and background...
but bring that train "track" up a bit because, oooh, it's tasty. As a mood
piece, you truly made a dark evening a bit darker. Continue to
experiment, KDub. --Miss Chaos

Experimental music is any music that challenges the commonly accepted notions of what music is. There is an overlap with avant-garde music. John Cage was a pioneer in experimental music and defined and gave credibility to the form. As with other edge
