New Day

Description
I recently came across a scrap of paper that a few years ago I had written down about 8 lines of lyrics and a chord progression. Since it was one of the few surviving pages from an old notebook that had been ruined by an unseen leak in the roof, I decided to flesh it out and see what happened. I added the chorus and tweaked the chord changes a bit.

The origonal lyrics were written at a time when I hated my job, the house I lived in and the place where I lived. Thus, they aren't overly bright and shiny. :)

The only loops used are, of course, drum loops. Everything else is all me.

Lyrics
In the mirror see your face
and you look around this place
It’s a new day

Wonder how it came about
how you can get out
it’s a new day

You sit alone wonder why
you just sit around and cry
trying to get by

Will it ever come again
will the darkness win
hope the pain will end

Looking deep into your eyes
when you realize
it’s a new day

Crying for the day to end
when you pay for all your sins
It’s a new day

And you always wonder why
you watch your dreams all die
tell your self these lies

Will the sun come out again
Or will the darkness win
Hope this pain will end

In the mirror see your face
and you look around this place
it’s a new day

Wonder how it came about
how you can get out
it’s a new day

Been on the sleepy side of life myself for the past few days. Thanks for stopping by and listening, CJ. Sweet dreams!

Lots of goodness in the bad --- bourbon, LOL
I wonder if there's anyone who hasn't been 'here'... That can't be
possible right...

As always, JG, a job, very well done on this tune, especially on
capturing a moment... I felt it, and I'm not sure how much of it was
from your deal verses, the shadows of my own darkness. Regardless,
you certainly have awakened any traces of those unforgetful moments
of pure personal hell.

I love it when 'bad' is whipped into good...

You know what they say: If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Then find someone who's life has given the vodka and party! I appreciate your comments, Dion. I think most of us have been there at some point in time. When things get better and you can look back, it feels pretty good.

I feel you
One of your best ones so far, in my ears... This is once agan a very good
song, with a good melody, and good lyrics. The guitar is really, really well
arranged and performed, as is the piano sections. I think what makes me
say this one of your best one so far is the overall mix which you master
here. The vocals are brought up, they stand out and does it in a good
way, nice vocal arrangements. The guitar lays like a crying wind and the
drums is like a bourbon filled heart beat. Great work on this one, goes
directly into my ipod (like the previous one did too).
So now what, either I'll have Bourbon and start the day, or go back to bed,
wake up later and start a new day!? :)

I feel you
If I were you, I'd enjoy the best of both worlds: Have some bourbon and then go back to bed.

This one was easier to get a good mix on because I didn't have as many instrument tracks as I usually have. I was also please with the way the vocals turned out on this one. I've been monkeying arounf with the graphic EQ until I've found a setting that seems to work well.

Thanks for listening, Mikki. And thanks for all your support.

Kidnapper
So do you have Neil Young captive in your attic, or can this really be
you? You sound terrific on this one, J. You and Rebecca put out the
best music.

Kidnapper
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard - keeping Neil Young in the attic! Abosolutely not! He's in the basement! :)

Thanks for your comments, Lisa. You are too kind. I appreciate you taking the time to listen.

Ooh great, I love melancholy songs ...
I like the chorus effects you've used on the guitar and piano ... nicely
jangly and atmospheric. Lovely chord progressions ... especially into
the chorus, which sounds really lovely. Overall a powerful and heartfelt
song. Excellent.

Ooh great, I love melancholy songs ...
Thanks, Rebsie. A little tough of melancholy now and again is good for the soul. No one died in this song (well maybe a little on the inside) but I'm glad the sentiment got throught . :)

I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment. I very much enjoy the songs you contribute. Thanks again for dropping by.

Nice to add that type of discription to give more meaning to the song.
Would be nice if the high paid recording artist would do this.

Like sharpness of the percussion, almost aounds like real percussion.
Nice singin

Thanks Bill. I like to think all songs, at least decent songs, have some kind of
story behind them. Some are big stories, some are just little snippets of
someone's life. I find the stories interesting, especially if it gives some insight to
where the motiviation for the song, if not the song itself, came from. I
appreciate your comments and I'm glad you liked the song. Thanks for taking
the time to listen.

Like a Hurricane
Wow - the guitar immediately made me think NY. Good job there. I have
to agree with mikkilund - this is an excellent mix.
Lyrically it's very good - if personally annoying. I get this mental picture
of one passive person moping and another passive person singing about
the person moping and no one is doing anything about it. Makes me want
to yell at them to do something.

Like a Hurricane
You know, I hadn't really thought about the little disfunctional drama you mentioned, but now that you have, it fits pretty well. Yell away. Maybe that'll get 'em off their butts and they'll get some therapy. :)

I was pleased with this mix and with the guitar sound I got. I use the same guitar method as typing method - advanced hunt and peck.

Glad you stopped in to listen and comment. I appreciate it.
