Lyrics
When Worlds Collide

prophet on the corner
sermons your fate
down on your knees
its love or hate
watcher of the skys
comet passes by
he will predict
the how and the why
the space cowboy
alone on the moon
saw what you did
as he glides down

pre chorus:
now is the time
we say goodbye

Chorus:
when worlds collide (goodbye)
its the end of our time (goodbye)
when worlds collide

crystal ball gazer
told our future
don't waste your time
nothings forever
i'm a drifter
i come and go
here i stand
end of the road
every fortune cookie
read futures bright
no matter what
won't put up a fight

pre chorus:
now is the time
we say goodbye

Chorus:
when worlds collide (goodbye)
its the end of our time (goodbye)
when worlds collide

lonely star gazer
saw the last light
packed a suitcase
slipped into the night
well the universe
no longer shines
as so many minds
a final farwell
a final funeral
for a universe

thats has met its end

pre chorus:
now is the time
we say goodbye

Chorus:
when worlds collide (goodbye)
its the end of our time (goodbye)
when worlds collide

Brilliant!
Existential angst in cosmic proportions. You have outdone yourself again. Love the guitar work in this. Also your drums and percussion are much better than usual. I hear some Beatles, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and even a little classic Glass Harp. Exceptionally good mix as well!

Rock on!

thanks mike
my only agnst on this was to get this done. it was a little time here and there. and yeah plenty of guitars in here doing there own little things. a mixed bag of inspiries to be sure. no doors yet. ha! i did try to keep the fairly abstract lyrics between "cosmic and a relationship" could of gone into other subjects. but to much information hurts the brain!
Thanks! and don't worry the end of the world ain't tomorrow.

And in the end...
Wonderful moody setting for some really great lyrics. Such a rich musical bed and great production to boot. This one's definitely going on my iPod.

well ya know...
you are one of the people on this site that influence me to work a little harder. its all i can do to keep up. this started with only 3 chords and the song title. and started building it from there piece by piece. not my usual fleshing out of a tune. but it kinda puts you on your toes, thinking of possibilities, added lyrics after. so it was kinda working backwards.
Thanks for the listen and comments. always appreciated.

Great
This was a really solid song! Really loved your singing and the lyrics were nice. The only thing that I might work on for this song would be that the verse has a harder impact on the listener than the chorus does. Ideally you would want the chorus to really stand out from the verse. But that is not to say that it doesn't work just fine the way it already is, because it does and I greatly enjoyed!

i try to dig more into all the small bits to make a big picture. i'm probably playing more computer than guitar, so it seems, thanks on the vocals and lyrics. i'm not the best singer but encouragment sure helps. and lyrics, oh the sheets of paper i've thrown away.

Thanks for the time and comments!

there are days....just don't sick that pup on me, good thing i'm on the other side of the continent. Ha! totally kidding. i'm sure you and i have to much more music to produce before the end of the world, i have it on good authority that it's not tomorrow. but then, you're cranking them out at such a pace that it makes me wonder...do you know something we don't?

true
amagi is usually right. in a odd round about way liyrically i've been adding, abstractly, human emotions through a different perspective. a conscience effort to mesh the ziggy phase and the early 70's lennon phase. that can be full of anxiety right there.

Thanks for the listen and comment!

What a great mix of sounds in this. Vocals are great, and the backing track is so full of great textures and riffs.

Kudos! :)

i've been really interested in getting the little things in there to build a piece. it's taken me awhile to figure how to make it work. i was always influenced by music of sometime ago , not to name names, that were always referred to as headphone music. it's fun when you hear things change and move around in the background, and thank you very much on the vocal, i need all the encouragment i can get. thanks for the time to listen and comment always appreciated.

I was working on some of my own stuff...
...yesterday when this popped up in my Mail... So I took a break and listened to it... and again this morning... The way it worked out, I listened to it on my monitors and then on two different headphones, 'cause that's just how it worked out...

My impression is that this mix works best as a headphone mix, and, indeed, on headphones it's a full-scale treat, with stuff coming from every angle and in every frequency range. I found that it sounded less 'together' over the speakers...

It reminds me a little bit of Chris Bell's solo stuff (from Big Star). It certainly takes a nod at a lot of guitar-based psychedelic stuff, including the Beatles, Bowie, Mott the Hoople... It's one of those ones that grows on ya the more times you listen...

It's a shame that you don't have band-mates... I could hear bits where another voice could come up and put in a unison or harmony... This is one where you really have to check in with Bubowski for a little bit o' Mellotron...

The biggest treat, as so often, is the guitar playing, which I continue to love and appreciate...

Ed

Bubowski said 3813 days ago (January 15th, 2007)
Love this song...
and even before I read Ed's comment I was hearing Mellotron parts in my head :). This definitely has that 70s vibe going on...great songwriting and playing. Nice job! DLd and Fav'd.

yea i subconsciencely got stuck in a time warp without knowing it. i might play around with this. i've been avoiding the keys, a little rusty, but should work on 'em. the mellatron sure would send this up...and a theramon. i think i have a program for that.

Thanks for the listen and comment, really appreciated.

mott the hopple is good reference, since it has a power ballad feel, there is a ian hunter double cd (if you can find it) that covers his mott days and his solo stuff. one ballads one rockers. solo stuff had mick ronson collaborating. didn't think of it til now but you would here a lot of simularities. true if i had two voices to offset would be ideal but i work with what i got. so it goes i guess. i was about to put some piano lines in the chorus but i would of had to take out the electric guitar line do to competing tones and me without that guitar! know that could of been fun to add a mellatron that really could do a total send up of the period. a little rutle fever! to many possibilties. when i've got time to go back into this i might try some alternative things. there's a collection of songs here that have a common thread. that are going into a bigger project of mine...so i'm listening.

Thanks for all the comments and support ed. means alot.

i worked on this in little pieces. not knowing where i was going to go next. usually i have it mapped out and written with lyrics. i think taking a different route from the routine form helped on this piece. took a couple weeks, but i think it kept me on my toes. i can easily live with any ziggy reference, theres a whole school of music there. where i'm at, our temperature is cold enough to freeze the hairs on you arm and fall off!

Thanks for the great comment!

Really Freakin' Good
You did a really good job of using sounds and elements from good rock songs of the past, but keeping them fresh, interesting, and yours. There's nothing I don't like about this. I absolutley love the slide guitar that comes in near the end. Great guitar sounds, great vocals, great song!
Vic Holman said 3811 days ago (January 17th, 2007)

yeah there are influences. could be as i grew up learning to play, along the older albums, there was that fantasy of playing in those bands. at least i wasn't standing in front of a mirror. er, not much..

Thanks for taking the time to listen, truly appreciated!

Killer chorus once again
How do you do it? Do you start with the chorus and then write verse around it? Especially dig the King Crimson Mellotron moment after the pre chorus - then the steady guitar/bas trip - very Beatles. God - here comes George on slide - this is all too much. Pardon all the comparisons - but you touch so many nerves that lie sleeping waiting for your next tune. I don't seem to get any of the flashbacks I was warned about (bummer) - but you manage to tap the reserve. Thanks. BTW the lyrica and vox are more than excellent - a vital part of this E-ticket ride.

mystery blur
actually i started this with just the title and three chords. normally i just sit down with a acoustic and figure out the chords and write out the lyrics before i even start recording, but lately i've just start a section, then go one to the next. lyrics have been coming in last. grows from three chords to quite a few and figuring what can play off of what, of course some bits here and there get cut. so alot of what ifs come into play. so i don't know how the story ends anymore. i'm doing the same process for the next that i've just started. funny thing is when i'm just jamming or practicing i'm usually playing rockin blues or shredding. so these psycho pop tunes are coming from somewhere else. i ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Great Guitars
Once again its Vic-Guitar extravaganza! Great guitars. You are one of the best MJers in the blending of your guitars and the riffs that surround your melodies.

Another goodie!

i do love the guitars
have to many as is. i always liked the wall of sound bands like queen built. hendrix recored a version of the star spangled banner in the studio that had countless guitars and basses in it. more tradional than woodstock. don't know where you can find it anymore. but i was totally in awe and has stuck with me to this day.

Thanks for the kind words and listen!

What a trip!
This is a truly engaging song, Vic - off the bat, it's been downloaded and Fav'd. Though you do have a very cool, very unique voice, your deliver reminded me a little of, not so much Bowie, but Elvis Costello - which is quite a trip to hear in such a wide open and spacy song; I love it! The arrangement is just magical - there are little details, bends and instruments that come in only for a little kick around the ends of measures, that speak volumes about your song craftsmanship. Yes, you do show your influences, but you don't rip them off, either. Unlike a lot of tunes from the late 60's, early 70's, this one doesn't sound dated whatsoever. And then the lyrics are very poetic and poignant. As they've just updated the Doomsday Clock, this song will always be playing in my head whenever I read about it or think of it - very timely.

My one small critique would be in some of your vocal delivery towards the beginning of the tune, within the verse. You're on-key throughout the song - but some of the rhythms seem a little forced, unnatural. I think that some of that will wear away as the song grows within you, but it seems to not be as much of a factor as the tune progresses. Outstanding job otherwise on the vocals. A highly enjoyable tune all-around.

really glad you liked this. it's a matter of digging in on all the parts. as you can figure the world won't come an end soon. but relationships can be on the edge and each person is a world on to them self. true, i agree i'm a little more in the costello tone, vocally.

Thanks for the time to listen and comment. lets live a long, good life.

Love the Slide Guitar
Definitely has a 70s vibe and Mott the Hoople certainly comes to mind, but I think what is impressive is all the subtle nuances that have been creatively placed throughout the song. In that i am referring to all the guitar parts, they are very fluid and tasteful. Well done!

it's fun and interesting to orchestrate those little pieces in. some i had to cut due to competing vocals, etc. but its all about taking a little time to experiment, i've beeen really trying diffferent guitar efx and tricks.
