Description
I READ THE NEWS TODAY....
this is based on true facts as i watched the news in a few days time. there is the verse of devils son that happened in my area. luckily the criminal was arrested and a little girl saved. the region has been very supportive of her and her remaining family. the verse after concerns one of my own dramas. having a tumor removed from my upper lip with radiation oncology on top of that, i've got a dandy pirate scar. the rest comes from stories that seem to never end.
I wrote the lyrics a year and a half ago and almost forgot them.
i hope these tragedies have not befallen on any of you. i just think everyone needs to be aware and support there fellow man.

Lyrics
DRAMA:

plastic man cell phone in hand
bored girl works the coffee stand
down the street somethings going on
in the distance sirens play their song
and a crowd quickly gathers around
from a roof someone hit the ground

devils son holds a family hostage
kills three unleashing his rage
steals the kids having his way
one will die one will be saved

CHORUS:
theres your drama it isn't always pretty
theres your drama it isn't always pretty
see the world bleed

fame and glory holding hand in hand
compilcations unseen as it began
the more you get the more you give
eyes are watching how do you live
poor man dreams what is it like
money is scarce his union on strike

happy family has it just right
its real hard as tragedy strikes
broken father mother isn't right
all the kids destructive and fight

CHORUS:
theres your drama it isn't always pretty
theres your drama it isn't always pretty
see the world bleed

wounded hearts heal over time
pray for johnny he has turned to crime
determination it's always there
plastic man he is never aware
bored girl with the blank stare
never realized what was there

lifes dramas make us stronger
eyes are closed life looks better
is there justice well i can't say
only the survivors can have there say

CHORUS:
theres your drama it isn't always pretty
theres your drama it isn't always pretty
see the world bleed

I like it
Overall, I like this. The lyrics are strong. I particularly like the chorus. It's catchy and makes a succinct point. The overall sound is really nicely filled out and well balanced with a nice energy and drive.

I'd like to hear a little more variation in the vocal melody pattern of the verse lines here and there. There are also a few times when it sounds like you are struggling to fit words into lines (timing wise) that I think with some work you could resolve. For example, the part "...it isn't..." in the chorus sounds like you are trying to force the two words into the same place. Without changing the words at all you could get the phrazing on that line to work better. One other place that stood out was "plastic man he is never aware". As it is right now "aware" runs out of space and the two syllables get forced into one. I think if you say "he's" rather than "he is" you will have the pacing of that line better.

Other than those little phrazing issues I think the delivery sounds really good and driving. I enjoyed listening and found the lyrics thought provoking.

thanks peter
its great to have a second set of ears. i've now noted those on my lyric sheet. i tend to listen to everything at once at mixdown and miss things on vocal infliction and that has been my weak point. so thanks, i probably wouldn't have caught until a week or two. man do i need a vocal coach.

Hey Vic
Really strong pulse pushing this along - great bass/drums. Lots of interesting guitar turns and textures as usual. The story and delivery is strong stuff. I kind of agree with Peter on some variation in the vocals - reaching for a different edge or tone/melody. But heh - that's small crit for a piece like this.

thanks, i've got a pulse!
i almost forgot about these lyrics and was going through my notebook and found they fit the feel and drive of the "i'm mad as hell" social commentary. i agreed with peter to. i'm the first to admit to being a bonafide singer, i could always domy walter brennan impression and narrate. just kidding, it's great to be made awhere of these things.

Ah!
I am commenting right where the lead starts and I am floored! You get some great sounds out of that guitar. Well we all have drama sorry to hear about your lip. Like Forrest Gump would say thats all I have to say about that . Great song Vic!!!!!
Vic Holman said 3765 days ago (March 4th, 2007)
thanks E.B.
that first lead solo has 3 guitars in unison. i probably should take the time out to read a book. but it's fun anyway. yeah the lip left a hole between my lip and nose, they pulled the skin over and so i got my cool scare. not to noticable unless the lightings right. the only thing is i can now only grow half a moustache. i told the doctor if a comb over was common in such cases. i take life with a sense of humor.

Powerful song...
great production.... compelling all throughout. I like the repetiveness of the singing... just like this news... it keeps repeating itself... same story, different day, again and again. Makes the point and fits the lyrics.

my 2 cents...
Vic Holman said 3765 days ago (March 4th, 2007)
thanks jack
i'll take those two cents, copper has alot of value these days. i think it is kind of a narrative in a way. and yes, sadly the stories keep repeating themselves. to bad we don't see the terrorists among us.

Thanks Jack i'm glad you took the time to listen and comment, appreciated!

Smack Bang Wollop
Halfway through listening I turned ths up so loud it made my ears bleed. Then it smacked me around the head a bit.Just what I needed - I just came back at 4.00am having tried to sleep in the car park cos my neighbours were drunk and shouting and I have to be up early, plus an old wound has returned where my left hand goes numb, due to fracturing my elbow once after falling down some concrete steps when I was homeless and even more drunk than my neighbours are just now.On with the show - thanks, good stuff,Vic

jeez richard
that really sucks. those loud nieghbors can sure get around especially at the most inconvenient times. play music again real loud when they're hung over. hope the nerve problem is temporary. but knowing from your bio you've been through quite a bit and have some tales to tell i'm sure.

thanks and take care of yourself.

Amazing sounds you get
from your guitars.

I'd also like to hear a bit more variation in the verses and maybe a tweak or two of the lyrics to get them flowing a bit more.

Overall a really full sound and some difficult issues dealt with.

Brave stuff but good :-)

Cheers

i realize now theres a few spots i need to readjust to the lyrics. sometimes you don't notice some things while you into it. oh well. no fancy effects just different guitars and tone set up most are clean with the leads have a bit of distortion alot of harmony lines through out.

Thanks for the time to listen and comment appreciated!

Good work Vicar!
Well written. I'm glad you snatched this from oblivion. Wow, the chorus really makes this piece along with the great leads that follow...WHOA! REALLY DIG THE MAIN GUITAR SOLO! What a cool psyche-sound. Yes...drama...it's everywhere. "I read the news today Oh boy..."

Be well bro!
Vic Holman said 3764 days ago (March 5th, 2007)
at the time...
i thought it may be to intense. but we see this happen repeatedly. sooo the activist in me came up and it matched the song pretty well. i was looking for a call and response on the chorus so it was fun figuring that out and harmonizing the guitars there as well as the solo section. with all the tracks it was surprising how quickly it came together. now on to a tune about fluffy things.

Take care bro!

great rock song
This one started off as a pure Bowie track. You know how much i dig the fact that your vocal timbre is so close to Bowie's. Very strong and catching lyrics as well. Lots of headroom on the production, which I welcome a lot in this genre. Splendid and honest guitar work, Vic. A joy.

thank you very much Walter
oddly enough, on my drive home today, i was listening to scary monsters. i had forgotten how many guitars are on that. not to mention alot of ideas. who knows, in the future, some scary vic!

Thank you very much again

GOOD IDEAS!
OK! Cool song but you need to work on your phrasing in your vocals. I liked how you took it up a notch in the singing more towards the end. I would do that throughout with more of a punkish snarl. Give it attitude and I think you will have a killa song! The music sounds great!

you're right on the vocals
others pointed that out earlier. plugged up head at the time. i've since corrected it. hopefully someday we'll be able to resubmit the songs without going through the whole process.

Thanks for taking the time. always appreciated.

Tonal plus....
....on everything. Very different. I agree with DoctorBiz....just a lttle more snarl in the vocals for the sake of the lyrics...BUT really like the singin' anyway!

i actually have fixed the vocals and changed a few words here and there. to bad we can't slip the changed songs back in without going through the regular posting method.

Thanks again!
