Truth Fades Away

Description
This has been sitting and waiting for a couple weeks while i did an entry for the LIOLI.

Seems to me the story keeps changing. Media government and even people sometimes change a situation to suit a purpose as opposed to letting the facts lay. the buck doesn't stop here anymore. unles I'm paranoid, I seriously doubt that.

Lyrics
Truth Fades Away.

somethings are better left unsaid
sometimes words get in the way
somehow somewhere i thought you said
and your face fades away
and you dream
and you pray
all those words fade away

ch:
no matter what you say
no matter what you heard
no matter what is true
truth will fade away

everything i saw i deny it all
why blue sky blind my eyes
johnny and the whiz kids with shades on
covered my eyes from what i saw
and you think
and you blink
then those visions fade away

ch:
no matter what you see
no matter what you saw
no matter what is true
truth will fade away

i can't touch you to cover your ears
whispers so silent gone forever
don't believe everything you hear
even a promise fades today
and you dream
and you pray
all those words fade away

ch:
no matter what you say
no matter what you heard
no matter what is true
truth will fade away

Cool beans
I can hear the jelly fish pick... The soft change was a great break before the rippin lead... Rock on brother!!!!!!!!!!!

i like it nice and quite before i assault the ears. the coolest thing about that quite part is the voice i manipulate throught a pitch sifter effect in real time took quite a few time to get it.

Thanks Ego. always appreciate you listening!

Mind bending
These lyrics are very buddhist in nature, Good sounds you put forth into this void of ours...Perhaps my favorite so far from the vic Holman collection, this song has it all lyrics, music and great melodies...this theme kicks ass!
Vic Holman said 3848 days ago (May 30th, 2007)
Thanks Tom
the lyrics came real quickly. some times it takes my a while to even think of anything. kept em vague enough to be open to interpritation. seems to be a hot topic in quite a few songs presently as well

Thanks again Tom. i still got that reggae beat in my step

Great break before the break -
and even better break after the break - and I really liked everything that came before the break and after the last break including the ending and the lyrics and the singing and the guitars and production and stuff. The beginning was really cool too. I'm gonna make a point of studying this one - I hear lots of neat tricks and funny sounds.

thems the breaks
thats how i work generally. thinking a section at a time. usually with a acoustic (thats why there almost always in there) then build up. if you need specifics on certain sounds let me know. Either i can help or send you down the wrong path.:-)

Thanks Bud! Thanks again for the LIOLI motivation.

Outstanding vocal
as always, and some very cool sounds sprinkled throughout this gem. Love that sustained note before the chorus. Some very nice guitar sounds - the solo has a sound that could cut through rock. Nice clean tone on the acoustic, and great placement of all the guitars in the mix. Nothing overwhelms or gets overwhelmed. And as for the lyrics - hitting the nail on the head. Excellent stuff. Nice work. Peace.

i tried to be a little subtle on effects. just trying to be sneeky. the lead is the frankenstrat i modified with noiseless single coil pickup and locking tuners, and a maple neck really helps cut through.

Thanks again David appreciate your listening

a jellyfish pick?
that's the first time i ever heard one... sounds very full.
i have seen them in my mags, but have never SEEN or HEARD on.
is it as diverse as it is claimed to be?
i think you could pick up a 2X4 as a pick and it would sound great!
as always, this is a killer tune! and the subject matter is dead on!
you never dissappoint, Mr. Holman. killer!
Vic Holman said 3848 days ago (May 30th, 2007)
jelly fish
it may be over rated for what the claims are. i used on the acoustic that comes in the second half of the verse with 8th notes it creates a 12 string sound pretty good and is a little louder then with a regular pick. the other stuff they claim is marginal. you can check out there web-site there they have videos of what it does.

you
have put together another great garage punk/psych classic. how did you get that lead tone at the beginning? it's like big brother and the holding company. is that the tube screamer? awesome. some really nice changes in here too. that ending is perfect as well.

hey michael
the lead is through my modified strat and yeah it has the tube screamer through a twin reverb, with the controls set to max, via my pedal board. the end section is part reversed, with forward guitars playing harmonized notes. like brian may does.

Thanks again for tuning in

Holy crap Vic!
This is fantastic Sir! Great lyrics. Floyd meets Petty vocals. Stellar guitar work. Astounding arrangement and production...You have topped yourself again Vicar. Truth may fade away brother, but may your guitar continually weep!

Be well!
Vic Holman said 3847 days ago (May 30th, 2007)
guitar
the guitar weeps enough that i have to constantly tune it. a little time comsuming play all the parts but overall it came together pretty quick. was kinda funny that i was constantly going from guitar to guitar along the way. just working a section at a time to a basic acoustic track that i would originally put down.

Thanks bro!

i'm going to need to start replacing strings

Great
Can't say enough about your stuff. A fine piece of songwriting. Great guitar break.
About your lyrics: One can tell that they come naturally to you while some people try too hard to be cleaver (not talkin' bout only the songs on the site, but also CD's/radio. Must say you have a special talent for lyrics. But like me, you've probably written all your bad songs 100 songs ago.
Experience is the best teacher.
I can tell you have lots of fun doing this. I really enjoy your music.

I'm sure i'm still capable of writting a crappy song. there were quite a few i deleted (spring cleanining over a year ago) when i was beginning to learn the recording process, thinking someday i would redo them. know i don't think they were that great. It does take me a while to think of some idea for lyrics, up to a week. once i get going though it comes pretty fast.

Thanks again for the listen .really got a kick out your last tunes you posted.

nice bit of production here, my friend.. from the clarity, and overall volume of this master, i think it is time for me to get logic......well played solo, well thought out song.. nice alt rock tune!
Vic Holman said 3847 days ago (May 30th, 2007)
thanks R.A.D.
it took a little while to get logic down. i still learn something everytime i record a tune. just the express version gives you a whole lot of options. the lack of a real manual sucks. i normally find hints from other sources.

scream and cuts
the solo was through a strat that i put fenders noiseless pick ups in. so i got a single coil and with a maple neck it really gives a good cutting edge. but from seeing what your playing in your picture i'm sure you know that. i sometimes throw in a quite piece before the solo... to wake anyone up.

Thanks Bob.

the vocal bit was done on a lark through my pedal board. took several times to get something because i had to move the shift so slightly.

The acoustic is plugged in. it has a xlr output jack that really sounds better and louder that a standard 1/4 " plus i can eq them from the guitar eliminating to much tweeking later.

Americana with SERIOUS BALLS!
I've heard more Americana alterna/folk/rock at MacJams than I've heard in my entire life, and I'm really liking most of it. But this song is a bit different: it is seriously ballsy! Forget about the Hendrix vs. Dylan debate. This jam brings the two together. Time for a second listen...

By the way, what years do you prefer for Ibanez guitars? I love their stuff from the late 90s/early 00s, but in the last few years their necks have sucked and pickups have been worse. Even Ibanez Jems and Universes aren't as good as they were a few years ago. I always wanted an Ibanez 7-string until the quality went way down. Now I play a Carvin 7-string.

Vic Holman said 3847 days ago (May 30th, 2007)
Thanks Aaron
i usually put some odd twist in the songs. otherwise i might get board. i share my birthday with hendrix, maybe thats where the ballsy comes from ;-)

the ibanez sa, i bought 4 1/2 years ago. i enjoy it. neck on mine is perfect for my hands. i do my own set ups, that always helps. it doesn't have a locking nut or trem. so tuning is a constant issue since i bend alot.

Carvins are nice.
Thanks again for the time.

Whole Package
Everything's beyond great here, but GEEZ that solo smokes.

I love the retro-modern feel and the production is truly professional. I'm listening to this on laptop speakers and it still sounds incredible, better than many professional songs I've heard this way. I love the fade, for obvious reasons, but think it should start earlier, maybe over eight measures.

Awesome!

Come on...
...this is CRYING for Mellotron!

I could swear I hear it in there from time to time.

I love the panned, bright and spangly acoustics at the break just before the guitar solo... The guitar solo is great, too...I certainly hear a certain Dave Davies meets Brian May kind of Vulcan mind meld thing....

I think--and I'm not sure how I'd suggest that you do this--I'd like you to somehow get yourself an additional decibel or two of clarity or presence in the vocals. They are always THERE, and yet I always have the sense that I have to actually PAY ATTENTION to follow the lyric lines... AND THAT COSTS BRAIN CELLS!....

You see what you put me through....

Well. Another good one...

The Rock Never Dies!
Super job again Vic. You are professional in every aspect of your recording. I like the way the lyrics keep approaching the same thing from a different angle so to speak. The "truth will fade away line" is very powerful. To these old bones, the greatest truth ever heard was Paul Simon when he said, "Everything Put Together Sooner Or Later Falls Apart". The backwards part. i created in a new file in logic express. played 3 acoustics. and synth strings. you can double click on each region and you get a list of effects including reverse. hit those and bounced the file out as a aiff. imported that into the song. gives a string quartet sound. then i played the 3 harmory guitar lines over that.

you might like this. i did used a jellyfish pick on one of the acoustics for the eight note rythm. it has tenacle tines that you strum with. i can only imagine what, with five arms, armed with these would produce.

I think I hear what you're saying, you're saying that math is something that you slept through in High School. You're saying that when your art teacher was showing you maps of Asia and teaching you Spanish, you thought it would be cool to flick a paper clip across the room and then stare at poor Raymond Childers as if he had done it. You watched him cry as he left the classroom on his way to the principal's office. I know what you're saying. You hate art. I always listen.

big & bold
Vic, what a huge sound you get. Everything is soooo large in the mix. Love the vocal/lyrics. Articulates my frame of mind exactly. Super strong production value. the guitar work was fantastic. Your lead was a tidal wave.

It's easy to be paranoid...
...when everyone is out to get you.

Excellent lyrics. Unfortunately, so very, very true. Just great production and perfromance overall. Very impressive. So much in there to catch the ear. Enjoyed it!

paranoid..who me? who said that?
Thanks Joseph. True theres alot of stuff. That has been part of the fun. But I think my next tune will probably be more stripped down. Gotta give my ears a rest.

Thanks for the time to listen!

dynamic
I like how you start the song with the powerful intro. You have a good sense of making good melodies, and make some tight arrangements and productions to match it.

Good choices of putting a spark in every now at the right places, never letting it fade.

Very niiiice guitar harmonies:)

Thanks Thor
I think I have to it with some drama otherwise I'll get board. I tend to put a acoustic down first then think of each section and would it sound like. actually less playing that way.

Thanks again Thor appreciate you time to listen.

Quite a lot of work
I hear a lot of effort and work on your part in this song - sculpted parts... The big break in the middle is nice, nice, great guitar work.

My favorite parts are the choruses (chori? hehee) and that break. Thanks for this.

Thanks Harold
Yeah theres a lot of bits. I think before i act on each section. I found I can get through it pretty quick that way.

Thanks for the listen!

Beautiful Textures
This one slipped past me - my loss. I'm starting to be a big fan of your work, Vic. There are lots of very subtle, sophisticated touches to a very strong, driving song.

And I love your vocals!

Satisfying Songwriting...
...Sparkling production! Loved this through and through. Great work. Such a unique vocal sound, and it sounds like you've covered every range of the audio spectrum with your choice of tones. I aspire to achieve this... Thanks for the inspiration!
