Description
Might remind you of someone.

I thought I explain what I did.
on the clean guitars i tracked those twice. i used my modified strat w/noiseless pickups running through a twin reverb modeling amp through my GNX2.
The distorted guitars is used a modeled fuzz face and Big Muff. Those guitars are playing different inversions.
The lead guitar (Ibanez SA) was run through a modeled hiwatt amp setting.

The backward guitars where played through a tube screamer and twin amp model through the GNX2 as well.

Some dashes of a flanger and reverb.

I really didn't have much else to say, so i thought that would fill up some space.

Also the art is one of my own from a time ago.

Lyrics
Slow Wind Wash Away

summer breeze
in this blazing heat
tumble down the street
like dried august leaves
slow wind wash away

ch:
the wind whispers mary
she suffers from the heat
a slow wind of memories
was all that she would need
the wind screams mary
please come back to me
but all she remembers
is a distant memory

wind of change
we lost it yesterday
now it has flown
so very far away
slow wind wash away

ch:
the wind whispers mary
she suffers from the heat
a slow wind of memories
was all that she would need
the wind screams mary
please come back to me
but all she remembers
is a distant memory

blow away
the remains of the day
carry away
the remains of the haze
slow wind wash away

I realized it had been almost a year to the day that i had posted a hendrix influenced tune. I thought it would also be fun to include some references in the lyrics as well.
Thanks for enjoying it!

Mr. Vic at first thanks for remembering me and sending me your link to this song.

The song : it's so nice to hear from you as always, and i really loved this one as FOREVER YESTERDAY (which is my favorite one of yours and it's in my special CD), the guitar is so clean, the lyrics very nice words you wrote, the vocal -maybe your best- !! .
From all the sides, loved this one !!
I'm glad you backed with such a nice tone

I really glad you enjoyed it.
I also listed in the description how I recorded the guitar tones. This helps the variety of sounds I'm able to record and not have to fuss with the tracks much.

Thanks again Yeman!

I'm not sure
if I'm beginning to dislike you ;-)

Not only do you turn out such wonderfully layered songs like this, full of inventiveness and originality you also do some wonderful art work.

It's just not fair..................

Excellent stuff :-)

thats how I do it
Everything going in is pretty much set-up. I just add compression and a high pass filter on the guitars. Then volume and panning all over the place. I had to record this in short bursts. To busy with work and the upstairs would be hot as a oven. Thats what influenced the wind theme. Box fan of course, but who sings about box fans.

A instant "Jimi Holman Experience" classic!!! Absotively awesome in every way Vicar. Some of your finest guitar sounds to date. Beautifully mixed to boot! I bow down before your six-stringed excellence...

Be well!
Vic Holman said 3611 days ago (August 5th, 2007)
I won't mention
I share the same birthday with JH. doe!
The hardest part on this was I had to keep retuning after each take. My recording has like a sauna during our heat wave.

I grew up playing to JHE albums as well as beatles.

He did a studio version of the star spangled banner that's an orchestrated guitar and bass masterpiece, recorded well before his death. Hard to find. But I've been toying with the idea for years.

outside of the chorus. I probably couldn't explain the chords. of course some aren't chords at all. some with add9. Thats about what i know. I should of paid more attention in Music Theory back in high school.

Alot of times I practice in this style. I'm not sure why I had waited until now to put it together.

Chords
Vic, I think we might have learnt (or not) from the same chord book. I rarely use easily named chords (well, they/re not easily named by me anyway) - mostly triads and diads learnt from many years doodling on my 12 string (have you ever tried to hold down bar chords on a 12 string that you haven't played for a while?).

Whatever you use, they sound very "right".

we don;t need no stinkin chords.
When i start dinking around I'll find some progression that sounds cool, I'll record that and build from there.

luckily for me I keep my 30 yr. old Takemine 12 string at work. So I can goof with that at breaks. Fortunately, the action is perfect and low I can bar a A chord at the 12 fret.

My Maton 12 ( 36 years old this year) has a great action too, it was my fingers that were found wanting.

I remember
back in the goofy, breathless days of being a yoot, when a favourite artist would release a new album and I would buy it, sight unseen, and know I'd love it. I'd see it in the 'new releases' rack, and think OH YEAH! IT'S HERE! Seven bucks later, and I'm heading home with it, studying the cover art, reading the song titles and relishing the anticipation of what those words will become when the needle hit the vinyl. Those were great days.

I feel like that with your stuff, Vic. This place is where music is real, exciting and sometimes touched with a little genius too...

I remember those days. Of course the Beatles and Hendrix would put out 2 albums in a year. Talk about salivating.

I'm finding it hard to listen to radio anymore. Just not inspring. So it's off to my little world so I'm glad when anyone lands on it.

I think the only album I'm actually looking forward to is Radioheads new one due soon.

Big Fan Of Box Fans
The only way to improve this song would be to buy a few more guitars, just to fill in the many empty spaces within this song.

Vic, are you the one who came up with the idea of stuffing a bunch of college men in a telephone booth? Or was it clowns in a volkswagen?

You're amazing, man. I'm buying you an AC unit.

But I think your right I need one more that says look at me.

This was a fun one to indulge in.
The ending was one of the guitars starting to modulate when i was setting up another track. I thought it was a cool sound and recorded it right there. I doubt if I would ever be able to create it again. Then i added some distorted swells and a reverse guitar bit. just one of those happy accidents.

Taken me a while to get 'round to listening to any of your stuff, and now it's going to take me a while to trawl the back catalogue. Damn! One of the drawbacks of discovering tracks on MJ's I suppose.

I like this a lot. Above all it sounds fun - like you had fun making it and just letting your mind wander and letting your guitar do the talking. Fantastic playing by the way.

Just out of interest how the hell do you master this so loud, without it distorting - this really blew my ears off. In a good way:-))

It's always fun to create something and not sure where it might end.

Most of the volume and head room comes from using a muLticompressor plug in, it also works a bit like an Equalizer. That takes some practice to work with. Then add a limiter as the very last plug in. this will stop any volume levels from going in to the red.

Hendrix jumps out at me. You got me smiling again as I enjoy another trip down memory lane. I'd like to hear your version of the Star Spangled Banner, so I could play it every morning when I wake up... then Gracie Slick would cry out "good morning people! are you ready for some morning maniac music"... well, something like that. Then another Holman track and a bowl of Wheaties and I am off to work!

Keep 'em coming Mr. Vic
Vic Holman said 3609 days ago (August 7th, 2007)
Hi Jack
purely intentional. I learned alot of guitar playing along with the albums as a teen, badly of course.

Iif I did get around to doing the Star Spangle Banner, it wouldn't be the Woodstock variety. The in-studio version had countless guitars and basses playing like a symphony. It's a pretty complex piece on how he did it. ... it's almost intimidating to even attempt.
