Description
A Lost song from a "solo" artist who seeked spirituality in his life. Overlooked or forgotten during final mixing. Oh well, that's in the past.

This would be a period in time when pop rock songs were still played on AM radio.

Lyrics
Inner Light

traveling down this worn out road again
picking up pieces scattered around my sin

searching for the inner light
a little trip in my mind
searching for the inner light
a little piece in my life

don't forget all the memories you see
listen to everything you have been they say

searching for the inner light
a little trip in my mind
searching for the inner light
a little piece in my life

there's a bridge on this path
crossing over leaving the past
there's a light at the end of the road that's where i need to go

on my cloud above it all blue skies
i see my life now guided by my inner light

searching for the inner light
a little trip in my mind
searching for the inner light
a little piece in my life

And The Traveling Willburys :-) running down a new dream - learning to fly - nothin' but blue skies... peace, Bro :-) Another "Happy Tune", but my favorite will always be "Without The Sun" ( Love is... the best inspiration. :-) ) Some feathers in one's pocket - always a blessing.

We've had
Vic Floyd now it's time for Vic Harrison... There's more than a bit of Tom Petty in there as well. As to which album... It's not Wonderwall Music (which is the only George Harrison album I'm familiar with). There is a bit of Badfinger also - but they were very Beatlesque.

Killer tune as ever Vic.

funny thing
when i listen to alot of these songs, it begs the question; why arent you writing songs like this all the time? this is very good, and could still be relevant on the radio. this is a very good direction for you, i think.

Lit up
That guitar solo must be inspired by the artist you are emulating because it is an uncommon VH solo, I know the clues are there...GH is the obvious choice but if not him then who? Lovely anywho...
Vic Holman said 3605 days ago (December 6th, 2007)
very true
the solo is modeled after some of the songs of the album I'm comping. A clean tone through the neck pickup of my semi hollow body electric. really has a different tone. It was nice to finally find a place to put it.

excellent song with great production (how do you get that volume?), so well played ,sung and arranged..... and I think I'd have to go with George Harrison too, M

Vic Holman said 3604 days ago (December 7th, 2007)
volume
nice compressors and eq'ing for the most part. Plus, when i pan a track often I need to move parts of the pan field slightly to make room or avoid stepping on toes of other frequencies. clean tones work best as well. I do effects through a efx pedal board going in, so I know exactly how each track is sounding compared to the previously recorded tracks. Then I set a limiter at the end but don't boost it.

All Vics Must Pass...
Nice GH-ish tune bro...Or is this the ghost of GH doing VH for LSP?

I agree with Mr. Wounded re the "uncommon" (for VH) guitar solo. Quite a departure from the type of licks you usually deliver, but exceptionally DELICIOUS nonetheless...

Not really sure which album, as the lyrics are full of red herrings...

Be well bro!
Vic Holman said 3604 days ago (December 7th, 2007)
I did some careful....
listening on tones for the solo. Tried a few different guitars and amp models. And funny enough found that the same amp model and guitar I used for the electrics worked best. But with the neck pick up instead. And used a herrin as a pick. :-)

Diviner said 3605 days ago (December 6th, 2007)
When I first heard this
I thought it was Cat Stevens, but it is too electric for Cat. Also everyone is so sure its George Harrison, although Tom Petty is a good guess as him and GH were really good friends and influenced each other. This track for me is harder then the first one you submitted for LSP.
The quality of all the elements of this track are very good. Everything from the lyrics to the production are great. Well done Vic.

Gotta be David Seville!
...who, incidently, was also know as a member of an English group (commonly known as the Beatles) under the name of George Harrison. Seville was known for recording many different styles of music under many different names, many of whom are still undiscovered or disputed. There were many hints here and there in his music (if you play 'Alvin's Harmonica' backwards while watching The Wizard Of Oz, the flying monkeys will appear to say 'Bagdasarian' in Swedish)

Living all these double lives came to affect Seville, however, and he increasingly became more spiritual - which showed in his music. Eventually he 'killed off' all of his alter egos - or most, experts are still unsure about a few - and continued with the George Harrison personna until the end.

I'm going to hell, aren't I?
Vic Holman said 3604 days ago (December 7th, 2007)
Yes Rik
you are going to hell in a hand basket. With your little dog, too.

As we all know, David Seville lives in a retirement home now, gnashing his dentures on table legs. Only to scream from his nightmares "Alvin!!!" He doesn't realize that all three chipmunks have been dead and buried in a shoe box for years now. It would crush his spirit.

Still no clue...
thought I'd come back for another try at figuring this out. The opening guitar riff sounds way too familiar. It brought memories of listening on the AM radio in the car when we'd take family trips. (it's funny you mention the AM radio thing in the comments) I can hear that riff continuing, but can't remember anything else about that song. Was it Badfinger maybe? Nice tune as always, Vic!

Well No Wonder(wall) it was lost...
George previously used the title ( *The Inner Light* ) for the flip-side of Lady Madonna when he was still a Beatle.

Really impressive. A great-sounding tune, Vic.

Can I call on you when I do a Beatles tribute song? I've asked McCartney to help, but he doesn't seem to be answering my calls. ;)

way to start off with one, vic.
8)

those sweet slidy touches are very nice.
"there's a light at the end of the road that's where i need to go"
MAN! that hit me over my ears' head with a ball peen hammer.
loved that.

i think you held back a little mix-wise on the backing.
i'd up the volume there, and mix your vocal with a different effect to separate the 2. (just my notsohumbleopinion)

what about "crosses over, leaves the past" as a slimmer lyric?

i applaud your subject matter - it was where i needed to go.
i enjoyed this song.
and am grateful for your continued listens - apparently you are not a score keeper. thank gawd!

Vic Holman said 3601 days ago (December 10th, 2007)

At the very beginning there are four slides then two for the rest playing in harmony thats the george secret.

I was considering adding another two vocal backups. But, wasn't sure, or to lazy. I think I will readdress that and also try the line you have suggested as well. I think you are right!

P.S. you should never have a ball peen hammer around a computer! ;-)

When I first learned to play guitar way back when. It was Beatle George that I learned from first. No tabs back in those days you just had to play along. It's fun to go back and realize what made you want to play in the first place.

Although ..

.. there's alot of Harrison in this. I get an overall
sound more akin to The Byrds .. with a hint of Tom Petty.
Awesome. Enough mix of influences to make this fresh and interesting - so I agree with Allen, this song-writing approach could bring some major commercial success...
might just require a slight modermization of sounds used here and there, while retaining that retro sound.

Well done Vic, brilliant mix, great vocals and guitars in particular.
