Description
Another new one... title could' ve been When the Whistle Blows, but there's a son of stuff with the same name: When The Whistle Blows, the show within a show in Extras is one and as far as I know this has nothing to do with that. The song started as an audio doodle and evolved into this. Jim sings a bit of harmony along with Kelli, and maybe there could be something else in it, but it seems a bit like a kitchen sink production for Jim. Another message of positivity from The Fritters' kitchen! ... we'd be interested to see what you think...

Lyrics
got down got down on my knees
kissed the ground dusted off my sleves
further than I thought it'd be
harder harder than it seemed

hold tight hold tight and let it go
spin the wheel and let it rock and roll
round and round and round it goes
where the little ball bounces
no one knows

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to

no time no time to take it slow
no time to be young no time to be growin' old
hot and hot and then your cold
keep up and keep up and don't let go
high time high time for feelin' fine
you know it's more more than a state of mind
you get yours and I have to get mind
and that's just the way it is

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to
know
oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to
know
sometimes you get down and then you get up
take more ponies than your pickup truck
don't let your spirits all change your luck
to suit me
don't back down and don't back up
can't fill the ocean with a paper cup
I hope no one else ever has troubles like these

Got up got up off my knees
thankful thankful for days like these
no matter no matter what you think
they're never gonna happen again
hold on hold here we go
spin the wheel let it rock and roll
round and round it goes

But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to know
But oh when the whistle blows
everybody seems to know
oh oh
ohoho oh oh

Always enjoy a new Fritters post!
As usual, Kelli's voice is wonderful in this genre. Excellent harmonies too. Sublime accompaniment Jim and a really nice production. Not sure about some of the bass lines Jim, but maybe they'll grow on me. There's a clash in the backing on "to suit me" and "ever has troubles like these" - might be the bass or the fx on the guitars (the "boing"?) that's causing the problem - just sounds wrong somehow. The more I listen it seems that the jaw harp sound is causing some disharmonia in there.

Nice song!

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

hmmm...
Thanks for listening closely, I think you might be right. There's a point in the multiple takes of the different parts at which I sort of lost the chord structure, and I tried to get it back and the bass probably is off. The only jew's harp I have is probably in the wrong key. I probably should pitch-correct that track. I think I need to go back to this and remix it, but I'll go onto other things now, including that lap steel part I owe you, Neil! Maybe I'll get some other comments that will help to guide the next mix, since I know it could use a better mix.

vocals are nice good style and great tone. they feel to be lacking some energy that the song seems to need. production and everything sounds good. nice song.

Good song
Love Kelli's voice (reminds me of the singer who used to be with a the little known band 'Tarnation'). I'd have to agree with Neil - there's something not quite right - but I'm not sure what. I will be interested to hear a remix. In any case, it's a really good song and (apart from the 'something') very nicely put together.

All the best
Peter

Song for the times
I enjoyed this very much. Serious and whimsical and loose and philosophical and thankful and dreamy and realistic all in one, with Kelli's wonderful vocals, so natural and free. Thank you, Fritters! :-)

Nice tune!
This is a very cool song and Kelli sounds awesome as usual. I think the things that Neil pointed out were noticed but I couldn't identify it like he did. The basic song is really good and would be worth ironing out the wrinkles and show off Kelli even more; she has an instrument. Great job.

Cheers,

Joe
