Celtic Extract

Description
In an effort to show more discipline in melodic development I have taken the second tune from the previously posted "Celtic Suite" and recast it as a quasi-classical piece - kind of like Mantovanni meets Keith Moon (although I'll be the first to admit my strings aren't anywhere as lush as Mantovanni, nor is the percussion as crazy-snappy as the late great Who drummer).

I don't know if I have the wherewithall to be considered a classical composer, but I sure love messing around with GarageBand's orchestral instruments.

The drawing is called "Storm clouds descending upon Ben Bulben," a flat-topped mountain in County Sligo.

Pop goes the orchestra
Thanks for the tip, Feter. I didn't realize there was a "Pop Orchestra" category, which undoubtedly would be more suitable for this piece. I need to pay better attention to my deficits.

Con none drum?
First of all, I must say how interesting I find your drawings. Too bad people here can't see the detailed pen linework which comprises the illustration. I know and appreciate because you have sent high res samples to me.

As far as the music here, there are some nice passages with beautiful melodic and chordal progressions. I'd love to hear a version without the drum track and with varying tempo and dynamics. It is a pleasure to hear you working with orchestral sounds.

swinging
For a long time I never used percussion; now I can't seem to do anything without it. Someday, perhaps, the pendulum will swing back : >

You'd better watch out - saying those nice things about my drawings may result in me sending you more!

Wonderful!
Wonderful work, this is NuCeltic I guess if there was something like that with its atmosphere and beats. Fine choice of sounds and enjoyable to listen to.

"Celtic Extract" sounds like an ingredient in a recipe for Irish ice cream. (Sorry, could not resist that one.)

I really like the counterpoint in the middle of this tune, and following that.

The string sounds are very pleasant and work well on this composition.

A happy and cheerful track, and a delight to hear. You've got a great ear, and I hope you keep posting.

Best,

John

Nicely done Warren
Although the drum parts are very good I'd like to hear it without the drums (so I need to listen to the original!)

Very well put together.

Cheers

I liked it.
I could see this as a backdrop to a Masterpiece Theater presentation: a story where everything works out well in the end. Love happy endings. Thanks.
