If the
Lute had been electrified in those days, I'm sure they would have used it more often after hearing this. This sounds fantastic, three lovely pieces perfectly played. Sorry about the hand and hope it recovers soon, cheers M

Renaissance = Good Music
Wow! This is cool. I've played these for years, so I'm thrilled to hear them here at MJ's, and they work really well on electric. I absolutely love renaissance music. It's a great source of music for guitarists, because it was a period when the lute was king, or at least close to the top of the instrument food chain, and so a lot of fantastic music was written for it, all of which transcribes well to guitar. The classical period, on the other hand, was what I call the Dark Ages for the guitar. But I digress...

I hope you do some more of these!

I really
miss playing this stuff on nylon string- John Dowland etc. is some of my favorite music in the world.I agree about the classical period and guitar.I love Sor's music but was never a big fan of Guiliani,Aguado or any of those guys. Thanks for not freaking out about the electric- Segovia would have chased me around the room and tried to kill me with his cane!

First off
this has the best title ever; you've outdone yourself, and can now safely be called the king of puns! Great playing, and very nice pieces, too. Not music I was familiar with prior to this, but very beautiful. I particularly like the second piece. Very nicely done. Peace.

Disappointed...
...I was expecting some 16th century distortion and feedback. What's wrong with you?

;)

I used to play these. You really do them soooo well. I know it must be a bit of a disappointment for you, not being able to play acoustic, but please accept my sincerest applause for how you've been able to translate the genre(s) to your electric. It's not a distraction in any way. The lines are beautifully separated and articulated. The sound is genuine, sincere, and loving.

You're a hell of a player, Mark...and thanks for the download. I shall carry these gems with me.

The mosquito...ahhhhh...hope you got 'im....

Sometimes,
...try as I might to come up with some in-joke or wisecrack, I have to just give it up and say: Heck with it. This is just flat out GREAT.

Reminds me very much of John Renbourn's Lady & The Unicorn and The Hermit albums...maybe a bit of Sir John A Lot Of and The Black Balloon...All of which are frequent listens and favorites. I credit the first with getting me through high school and a couple of the latter got me through grad school...

You manage to get a very suitable tone for lute compositions out of the Ibanez...

If you haven't yet check it out, I might suggest Richard Thompson's 1000 Years Of Popular Music, which includes his early music/Renaissance version of 'Oops, I Did It Again'...

I'm now awaiting your Renaissance version of 'Walk Don't Run'. And the madrigal version of 'Sweet Child O' Mine'...

Ed

I'm
a big fan of John Renbourne. His playing of early music sounds more authentic than most classical players who are sometimes more concerned with technical perfection than playing with feeling.I will start working on "Sweet Child" right away.

Even on an electric, this still has the delicacy you would expect from the period instrument. As always your playing brings out the best in the music.

Lovely playing as usual. I'd probably like to hear a little less reverb and a little less ringing in the RH channel. Typically wonderful playing - would love to hear you with a good recording setup.

Oh...
...how I love classical guitar. You play with such a sensitive touch. Each one of these tunes is beautifully performed. I very much like the "live" hall. It's probably not as authentic as a "real" venue, but the resonance you have created is really engaging and brings the music up very close and provides such warmth throughout your performance. Nice. Congratulations on a beautiful set. (Ah. The tuning is impeccable, too. What a pleasure.)
Peace.

Good interpretation
You adapt your style well to these pieces. I guess an electric guitar is actually more like a lute than the acoustic guitar is: your playing here is a lot more subtle than a classical guitarist would have approached it. Very lutelike.

Some interesting comments on this track. You're right that Segovia didn't like electric guitars. I read an interview with Chet Atkins where he tells about meeting the master, who was just going on a rant about electric instrument. Chet wisely didn't mention that he in fact played electric.
