Description
Two little Harpsichord exercises I hope are fit for the Court's amusement.

PS: If the first melody is familiar to you, let me know where you heard it. I don't believe it is modern enough to be covered by copyright.

Very cool
Love it. Sounds straight from the era. Great playing, terrific dexterity and touch, and lovely sound. Don't recognize the melody from the first piece. Sounds good, though. Nicely done. Peace.

Thanks for inviting me to contribute. The first piece was so short I threw in the second as a bonus. The first is new, the second I composed senior year in High School (back in the time of the King and his Court :)

Just how many
fingers do you have on your right hand to be able to play that second piece? I think the harpsichord must be one of the hardest instruments to play due to the lack of sustain of the notes, Two very pleasant pieces to entertain the Court to be sure, cheers M

How many fingers? When they are still or moving? LOL Harpsichord is different from piano or organ, that is for sure. I saw a real virtuoso hapsichordist and he made the keys bounce like a drummer does with the sticks, and with the addition of interweaving melodies. That guy must have had twenty fingers on each hand! Unfortunately I don't recall his name.

Thanks for listening in.

I don't think it Baroque. Seems to be working fine to me.
Very well played Bill. Nice Harpsichord sound from the Clavinova that fits the theme perfectly.

An excellent addition to the Kings choice of entertainment my friend. Yes, very good indeed.

Ars Antiqua!!!
Music from a simpler time that is performed without fanfare and with a really elegant style. Just right for the King's court dancing. I am particularly affected by your unaffected recording, choosing a small room without much reverb to convey a very intimate feeling in the performance.
Peace.

I always appreciate your comments. I did experiment with more reverb, but either the harpsichord or the music was simply not working in the bigger room.

Harpsichord.
Love it. Thank you for sharing.I seem to recognise the last bit from somewhere though.
Or maybe, its just me. But it does sound familiar. Cheers.

Peace Dee.

Funny you should think the second is familiar, because the first is still striking me as familiar. Maybe someone else will think of the tune for one of the pieces. Thanks for your comments.

Lovely
Light and almost effortless sounding (although I know how much effort it takes to sound effortless.) I'm sure the king will be very pleased with this entertainment.

Wonderful compositions and performances
The second tune has an interesting rock/classical feel and the first fits the courtly dance just right.

Thanks for stopping by. The first is the song I wrote for the court; good to hear it matched the theme of the occasion. I had the other sitting around and decided that since it sounded okay with harpsichord and they were both short I could add it in; it dates back to my heavy "classical" rock phase:)

Really impressive work on the harpsichord here. I love that this more simple presentation let's the talent of the playing shine through. Harpsichord IS hard - you've sure nailed it though!

Don't recognise either but the 2nd has a more 'modern' feel about it.

Unidiomatic, but fun
Ok, the harpsichord makes it feel old, but this is of course quite modern. The 5/2 time signature of the first movement and 11/8 of the second would be out of place before, oh, 1880. I'm not sure about the chords in the first movement. Maybe Scarlatti would have done something like that.

But hey, they are fun pieces, creative, and the audience clearly enjoyed the recital.

I am exposed! LOL I think you are the first to mention the time signatures. As far as GarageBand is concerned they are both in 2/4, so I took a look and of course you are correct about the first piece, except I go as far as to add a beat at the end of each statement of the theme. The second though is in 15/8 (or 5/8 if you wish, but 3 bar phrases are a bit odd) and is meticulously fixed to that pattern. They seemed to flow better that way, I really did try to match them up with proper 4 bar phrases in the 2/4 time but the pauses sounded awful. Thanks for the close listen :)

what fun!
that second piece was so spritely, I loved it. I imagine if the kids got down in this era, you know in secret baroque bedrooms, having parties, they'd be head bumping to that. well perhaps they'd just sway from side to side standing dangerously close to one another LOL. nice one.

Truth is...
...I've always loved harpsichord, ever since I first heard one in the 60s on Paul Murriat's hit "Love Is Blue."

I wish I had the software for it. I'd probably use one in a few of my tunes!
