Description
This is just a little Funk I threw together for the He-- of it. One of these days I write some lyrics to fill in the blanks, but since I like the way it sounds I thought I'd share the groove with y'all and see if anyone has any ideas for where to go with it.

Enjoy

Where's all the Funk
Well done Ed. I'm not usually fond of wailing guitars but you held this together for me with the bass & drums to say nothing of the organ and brass. Definitely funkafied.

Thanks Richard
I'm glad you dropped in for a visit and enjoyed the track. I tried to keep it interesting by letting it move around a little and not letting it get too repetitive.

Thanks again for the listen and the kind words on it Richard.

Be well and be cool,

cool
Great punch to this one! It needs a few grunts in the background and some kind of choral sound - just a repeated phrase would really lift it, not that it needs much lifting - great!! Nice clean mix too- everything sits very nicely in it's own space.

Thanks Smokey
Hey Smokey,
The reason everything sits nicely in it's own space is because I'm a space cadet, don't ya know.

All kidding aside, I do thank you for stopping in for a listen and for the great comments. I figure at some time I'm gonna write and add some lyrics to this one, but I do know what you mean about the rhythmic choral background and the grunts. It would lift it to a new level for sure.

Thanks for the thoughts on that, and again for the listen, It is appreciated my friend.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

wow ed
how did you get that fantastic horn sound ?? I recognize some of the loops but you have sliced and diced them and made them all your own. Darn cool Ed !

I think the horn sound has more to do with the key the songs is in than anything else. I did use some Reverb and Compression on them, but that's about it.

Anyway, glad you liked the sound and the song my friend. Thanks again for the great comments on it, it is very much appreciated.

Be well and be cool, Jack,

oooh yeah...
nah's 'n funkeeee. Excellent guitar work on this. The brass sounded a little strange, almost as if there was some kind of odd phase-shifting going on between the trumpet and the identical-but-one-octave-down stabs. But man, that wandering guitar work was great, and ended just when I was getting into it... sigh.
ttfn,

Thanks Drak
I had George Clinton and the Mothership in mind when I put this together, but missed the mark by some. Still, it is kinda Funky, just needs some People Power in it to make it really cool.

Got to get to the lyrics such as they'd be, and I'm getting ideas for that now.

Thanks again for the listen and great comments my friend. Glad you got down on it.

Be well and be cool Drak

Glad you liked the track Bob and sent along the good vibes man. Funk ain't Funky without the horns in there. don't ya know ?

Funky!
This is very sweet. You really get a lovely sound out of that bass, and lovely funky, subtle playing, and then of course there is the guitar - some outstanding playing here. You use the horns very effectively, adding a lovely dynamic feel. Man, there's nothing I don't love about this song! What a great production and sound, too. Not sure that it needs words, but I like SmokeyBaconJr's comment about something simple and repetitive perhaps. Either way, this is very, very cool! Nicely done, my friend. Kudos. Peace.

Thanks Dave
I was kind of thinking maybe SmokeyBacon was headed in the right direction too. Nothing too complicated, more like something the Mothership or maybe War would have done. Just enough to add to the Funk and not get carried away with itself.

For now I'll leave it alone and let the mind just wonder about it. If it needs it, they will come, know what I mean?

Thanks for the great comments Dave and for listening. Glad you liked the music, we'll have to see if it becomes a song later.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Funky stuff. This a great stuff to jam too. I like the wah in this. Bit of a fruit salad of sounds happening. Works though. Vocals would be nice to break it up. :)

Glad you enjoyed my trip back to the 70's Bill. Had a lot of fun putting this one together. In particular I had George Clinton and the Mothership in mind, but I may have strayed of the reservation a little on it. Still, sounds good to me and it's nice to see you liked it too,

Thanks again for listening and the kind words my friend.

a good place
Your head is in the right place, a good place, even if it is bobbin up and down with yo feet going side to side, this way and that. Gave us all a good taste of that funky stuff.

Liked your guitar work, just in the right places amongst them layered loops. Tasty, tasty tasty. Got me in the right mood, for some funky dancin tonight.

Hey there, if it got you to dancin' what more could I ask for my friend. This has always been my favorite genre, but I never get to really stretch out into it. Now with the new gear and the new system I can, and I'm lovin' it.

Thanks for the listen and the kind words Damien, it is very much appreciated. Really glad you got Funky with it and liked what I did here.

so
i was just on your page, cracking up at your comment about kicking back waiting for the grim reaper to call. you'se a funny guy. anyways, ther are some really sick guitar sounds here, love that slapback sound your using. i gotta say that you really shred. very cool stuff. are you recording through an amp, or have yo just found a way to make software modeling sound good? great stuff.

Hi Mike
Some of the really sick stuff you're listening to are Apple loops my friend and some of them are me. Which is which I'll let you guess at.

As for getting sounds I sometimes mic my amp and sometimes go straight into the board through my FW1804 interface. What I'll do is record the guitar track, save it as a loop and then layer it as an additional track using one (and sometimes more than one track) sounds in the guitar loops section.

The way it works it this. Pick out a guitar loops that you really like the sound of and bring it into a new track in either GB or Logic. Then erase the loop and bring in your guiitar part that you converted to a loop and place it on that track you just deleted the loop from. Now your guitar part is playing what you played, with the killer sounds from the loop you deleted. Clear as mud, huh? Anyway it works pretty well, and you still have the option of adjusting the amp model used by the original loop you built the track with. You can also modify the reverb, delay, flanger, Phase all kinds of thing that are available to the loop, that aren't available to the original audio track you recorded.

Any way, that's the secret Mike. thanks again for stopping in for a listen. Glad you enjoyed the track my friend, and the kind words are very much appreciated.

be well and be cool,

Ed

Where'd you learn to funk like that?
This is seriously groovy. Nothing but compliments on the guitars and the bass.

Eh, what happens with that horn riff around 0:30? Sounds like the tape got eaten by the heads on your old cassette recorder....

Happy Thanksgiving Vic
A long time ago in a Galaxy far away, I used to love doing funk and blues stuff. I haven't really done anything like this in close to 40 years, but I still love the feel of a good Funk tune.

I'm not sure what you're talking about on the horns at 30 sec, they sound ok to me. Might be a little phase shifting going on, but then again, with my ears I'm liable to miss something like that.

Not matter, I'm glad you like the song Vic and I appreciate the comments. I'll go back and see if I can pick out what your talking about in the horns. You aren't the first to say something about the horn sound.

By the way, farfor44 and Mick Reeves over on icomp wrote some lyrics to this and posted it as "Gimme back my Mojo" Sounds really killer in case you'd like to check it out.
