Description
The original version of this song was posted on November 1, 2005 www.macjams.com/song/14859. It has been re-mixed by Alimar and the organ was re-done by Futzpucker. There are some changes with the timing of the lyrics and the tempo.

Alannah: Vocals
aclarke: Guitar
pgreenstone: guitar
futzpucker: organ
stevec: bass
Perceptual Vortex: drums

Produced by Alimar
Music and Lyrics by Adam Clarke and Alannah Richards

This is the original description from 2005:

Started as a simple guitar track I recorded months ago and forgot about. One day, in MJ chat, Alannah commented on how much she loved to sing... I dusted this off and sent it to her. I was blown away by the power and emotion in the lyrics she wrote and by the way she sang. It was clear to me this song needed more than I could give it. SteveC was recruited for bass, Perceptual Vortex for Drum and Pgreenstone for additional guitar and organ. Peter also did an amazing job producing this. Much thanks to everyone who participated! You brought this song to life in an incredibly short period of time.

Alannah: Vocals
aclarke: Guitar
pgreenstone: guitar and organ/ songart
stevec: bass
Perceptual Vortex: drums

Produced by Peter Greenstone
Music and Lyrics by Adam Clarke and Alannah Richards

Lyrics
The hurricane in Louisianna
50,000 fall overseas
the waves that crashed on asia
we think about TVs and DVDs

It’s happening all around us
But we don’t wanna see
Of what’s becoming to our world
It could be coming to you or me

Brothers all around us are crying
Little children have nothing to eat
In the streets battles are waging
In the churches they fall to their knees

Chorus

Oh we could cry or we could pray
Or ask God to set us free
Or we could all join hands together
And take responsibility

Cancer descends upon us
And Aids and other disease
Our world is slowly dying
And we take what we please

But we must be aware
Of other’s plight in this life
We must help a sister
A mother a neighbour or a wife

Somewhere in the world right now
Another life is lost
Its up to us to mourn that life
And recognize the cost

Chorus

Oh we could cry or we could pray
Or ask God to set us free
Or we could all join hands together
And take responsibility

A fitting piece
For the closing of the MJ Reunion Festival. So many talented Macjammers have been involved with this... it just seems fitting that this should be one of the final MJRF songs.

From the very beginning I've found the lyrics to be very compelling, honest and true. More importantly they are remarkable timely... at any time. Alannah, this vocal is more reflective compared to the original which I thought was extremely passionate. It's very powerful.

I'm proud to be a part of this and thank everyone involved for their most valuable contributions.

Yes Adam ....
... definitely a "whole village" went into this one ... not to be confused with the "village people" .. that's a different thing entirely .... but I have wanted to re-do this one for quite some time .. and we have talked about it from time to time ... so glad to see fruition now !

Yes ....
... some of the words are a sad reality .... but I suppose the more "aware" we are ... maybe the more we can try to help do something about some of the tragedies of the world .. thanks for your continued support Smokey!

... the production is all "Alimar" ... he did a stellar job with remixing all these elements .... and helping to re-work the song so that it didn't appear to be a duplicate of the original but something new and fresh !

Lovely stuff. The emotion in your voice carries through magnificently, and the song is very moving. Great musicianship throughout, and a great tribute to the magic that can be created when MacJammers join forces. Kudos to everyone involved. Nicely done. Peace.

Interestingly .....
... not sure if you ever heard the story about the original of this tune .... but originally back in 2005 I sang along to a very simple track ... and didn't have headphones then .... and then Adam pulled a whole whack of artists into the tune and so so so much more was added and it was mixed to the best of the producers ability having to try and work in all that feedback created by the music coming through my speakers while recording ... in this remix I had headphones ... but I am sure that Alimar still had to work his ASS off to blend my voice into the mix .. heh heh ....
