Reuben's Train

Description
A good old American folk song.
This version owes quite a bit to Patrick Sky's version, I think recorded 1965.
Many will recognize where I ripped off the drum part!

Lyrics
Reuben made a train & he put it on a track
He ran it to god knows where
Should been in town when Reuben's train went down
You could hear that whistle blow 100 miles
Oh me, oh my you could hear the whistle blow 100 miles

I'm walking down these ties, I got tears in my eyes
I'm tryin to read a letter from my home
If you don't believe I'm gone, just you watch this train I'm on, cuz I'm nine hundred miles from my home.
oh me, oh my...

Ruben came to town..just as the sun went down.
shirt on his back was all he owned.
I got my razor blade, led ol Reuben in the shade,
and I started up a graveyard of my own.
Oh, me, oh my, I started up a graveyard of my own.

I've been to the east and I've been to the west
I've been all this whole world around
I went down to the river and I got myself baptized, now
I'm ready for my hole in the ground.
Oh me, Oh my...

Hi Feter
Hey man, thanks for dropping in!
My fiddling is pretty rudimentary, but I guess that's OK for stuff like this.

I like the words to this one too. When I first heard it, it's like, Oh Rueben made his own train? cool! Then the narrator kills him? WTF? Why? LOL

you're a natural
I know you don't know how to feel about your vocals but the reason that you are unsure about them is the reason that they work - your vox are the antithesis of slick. They are just natural, "singing cowboy" vocals and they work because you have a naturally pleasant voice. So anyway this is great stuff dude. Love the fiddling and the jangle and the aggressive drumming. Really like the fact that the last song you did was a metal tune and now you're playing Americana. Makes me wonder what's next...

thanx man
glad you liked... I try to have the vocals match my normal speaking voice because I have a horror of appearing pretentious / phony. There is a temptation to put on a phony accent for this sort of thing (you're lucky to have a natural twang!) I have one more folk tune coming down the pike. then probably go back to rockin' a bit.

I hear John Bonham.....
I don't listen to this sort of thing much, but I liked it. That's the drum part from Poor Tom by Led Zeppelin. I liked the guitar in the back too. DADGAD, perchance?

Reuben's Train
Great rock edge applied to a traditional folk song. The acoustic guitars sound fat! I love the little guitar breakdown section about 2 minutes in!
