Description
My musical musings from autumn 2008. This was the last song I uploaded before exiting for a brief time. It was here at MacJams for just a short interval. I've done some remixing, hopefully for the better. I like this one.

A guitar/vocal with an easy-feel melody... a song of release for me, dropping the heavy load, as it were. I'm glad to put this song up again. Hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics
Another day, another song to sing

Cynics cry out for my ear

Beauty is lost in the argument

As charity dies without tears

--My head is spinning from it all

--I grab the door, avoid the fall

Refrain:

I'm riding a cloud

I'm chasing a rainbow

Skipping a wave

Floating a dream

I'm climbing the sky

Trailing a moonbeam

Drifting today in a dream

I ask myself "Why do I stay?"

Just cut a check and leave

The crowd cries out to know the answer

Loyal agents offer reprieve.

Refrain

Hello Jack old friend
I got the email notification that you'd posted a new/old song so I thought I'd check it out. Unfortunately I am on my MacBook with only it's speakers to listen on right now so it's hard to tell about the mix.

That said, it sound very good on the little speakers in the MacBook. The vox is clear and about the right distance out in front. Guitars sound clean and the overall mix sound good, even on these little boogers. When I can I'll go back to relistren in the studio and if I hear anything that I think needs attention, I'll let you know.

Great lyrics with good rhyme and meter to them. Sound like t=you've got a winner here Jack. I love the song.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Drifting Today
Hello Jack,
I don't remember the origional post so I have nothing to compair to. I will say this sounds mighty fine to my ears. The humming intro with the soft strum of your guitar is perfect, wish it were longer though. Rich vocals throught, singing some of the best lyrics I have heard in some time. Great job on a sweet sounding track.
Be well, Russ

Russ...

The humming/la da thing did kinda work good as an intro, I thought also.

I'm not surprised you missed this before as it was up for just several days. Thanks for the very generous comment on the lyrics. The refrain was a bit of a different type of writing for me.

So thanks much for listening.

nice
great tune. you have a really nice voice. this song is great as an acoustic number, and since it's a good song I can also picture it in another context (a full rock number reminiscent of the Byrds or Tom Petty). great tune.

Nice comments all... I appreciate your little review given the quality music you produce. Byrds or Petty... yeah, I can see that. Though I can always go for a Byrds or Petty song idea.

cheers and thanks,
Jack

sky rider... I like that. Reminds me of that old Animals' song Sky Pilot, which I liked a lot as a youth.

Yes, head in the clouds... singing my songs. Thanks mate for chiming in.

Wow that's a high key - I wonder how it might sound a few frets lower on the neck.

Terrific lyrics, and a smooth mix.

Very nice. Good lyrics and vocal work. Just one nit pick and that's the guitar is a bit distorted, barely noticeable. reminds me of 70's folk music. Great rhythm.

Hey ABF...
Thanks for checking out the song. It does have a flavor of 70's folk... a lot of my stuff does. The guitar part is a left & right of the same track with slightly different EQ... that could be what you're hearing. Again, thanks for chiming in. It's nice to have a discerning ear listen along with any feedback.

cheers,
Jack

Yeah, I'm glad I put it back up. I like this song. Thanks for stopping in to give it a listen (I know you have a busy chatroom schedule ;)

I like channelstrip. I haven't spent that much time exploring it yet, but the 90 or 100 presets for mixing are pretty good and certainly a nice convenience for someone like myself that hasn't used mixing software like this before. Definitely worth the money for the GB version, assuming you use GB.

cheers,
Jack
