Description
Well, it seems the version I uploaded earlier has the song playing twice back to back. So I took that one down and reloaded it with the right version. Sorry about that.

I thought I'd fixed this once already, but I may have confused the site software when I reloaded the song using the same song name for the mp3 file as I did the very first time I uploaded this song. This make three time now I've done this, and I hope it's finally right now.

Ed

This is a MIDI interpretation of the old BlueGrass song "The Orange Blossom Special" from 1938. It's a MIDI file I found online about 12 or 13 years ago and have since reworked some and tweak for sound. I have no idea who the original MIDI file was done by, and I will not take any credit for this excellent bit of MIDI programming. But since I feel it is wonderfully done, I thought I'd share it with you.

This is a recording I made from the file in either 2000 or 2001 and have since converted from the original wav file to an aif file and then to this mp3.

I hope you enjoy this really awesome version of "The Orange Blossom Special"

Lyrics
The Orange Blossom Special
Written By: Ervin T. Rouse 1938
Recorded 1939 by: Ervin and Gordon Rouse

Look a-yonder comin'

Comin' down that railroad track

Hey, look a-yonder comin'

Comin' down that railroad track

It's the Orange Blossom Special

Bringin' my baby back

Well, I'm going down to Florida

And get some sand in my shoes

Or maybe Californy

And get some sand in my shoes

I'll ride that Orange Blossom Special

And lose these New York blues

"Say man, when you going back to Florida?"

"When am I goin' back to Florida? I don't know, don't reckon I ever will."

"Ain't you worried about getting your nourishment in New York?"

"Well, I don't care if I do-die-do-die-do-die-do-die."

Hey talk about a-ramblin'

She's the fastest train on the line

Talk about a-travellin'

She's the fastest train on the line

It's that Orange Blossom Special

Thanks Feter
After listening to the other version I realized I had somehow uploaded a version that had 2 copies playing back to back, so I pulled that one down, fixed it and put up the right version. Sorry you had to come back again my friend, but I'm glad you liked it.

Thanks again my friend for the kind words about it.

Be well and be cool Feter,

Sorry for the confusion, I uploaded the wrong file first time. Glad you like this one, even if you didn't beat Feter to the punch on it. He's pretty hard to beat when it comes to new posts.

Be well and be cool Bill,

Man, you got that right. I understand that some Bluegrass bands won't let you play fiddle for them if you can't play this song. Wouldn't surprise me if it were true either, this is a real test for a fuddle player.

Thanks for listening Jim and the kind words. Be well, be cool, and Happy Easter to ya neighbor,

Hello Jack
All of the voices you hear in this came from one device, my Edirol SC88vl. Nothing in this is real except the midi file that's playing all this sound.

At any rate, I'm glad you like the way it sounds. It sure has a lot of energy in it.

Thanks for listening my friend. Be well and be cool,

Ed

I don't know anybody who doesn't enjoy this tune.
I'm still not sure what you did (everything but the fiddle?) but, thanks Ed for posting this toe-tapper.
Cheers

Actually Richard
all I did was correct a few notes here and there, fix a few little timing issues, and then just get the voices set up to where it sounds like it does here. The original programmer (unknown at this time) did a wonderful job on the whole thing. I can't take credit for anything but how it sounds in this mix really.

Never the less, it is an awesome representation of the song, for a midi file with no live players in it. Glad you like the way it sounds Richard, thanks for the kind words on it. If I knew who wrote it I would be glad to pass that on to them.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Thanks twice Tom
I guess I somehow made a version with it playing back to back at some time and of course that had to be the one I'd post.

While I had it down, I did go in and fix that problem, but I also tweaked the file a little more in Logic using the Graphic EQ to try and make it sound even better. I built the bottom end up some and took a little of the sting out of the banjo.

Glad you came back for a second listen my friend, and thanks for the kind words on both of them.

Take care and be cool my friend,

Ed

So this is bluegrass...?
Where have I been all my life to have missed out on this terrific stuff. Loved it. And thanks for the evocative picture too.
sloparts said 2946 days ago (April 29th, 2009)
I don't guess you get too much BlueGrass
in Merry Ole England, so I can understand you missing this stuff.

It is pretty infectious music, and has a way of making everything feel better. Basically it tends to be "Happy" music.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the song, and I appreciate you dropping in for a listen and for the kind words you left for me on it.

Take care, be well, and be cool Bazz

Glad you enjoyed the track, even if it is only a MIDI imitation of the real thing.

Even so, it really cooks along good and doesn't sound half bad.

Thanks again Alan.
