Lyrics
It Came From Memphis

This boogie feelin’ starts down ‘round your toes
You shake all over, but it won’t let go
Like a fever risin’, catch you unaware
First it make you dizzy, then it curls your hair

They’re ain’t no anidote, they’re aint no cure
Once you catch the jitterbug, you’re gone for sure
The hoodoo doctor and the gris-gris priest
Ain’t got no mojo hand for this disease

When that doghouse bassman starts in choppin’ chords
And boots start scuffin’ on that hardwood floor
The snare drum kicks in with a train tattoo
It twangs a little country but it swings a little blues

It came from Memphis and from parts below
on a wind that blew in from ‘round Tupelo
It crossed the river on a midnight train
Rolling over muddy tracks wet with rain

Up from the bayou and the cypress swamp
Where big snakes slither and the gators chomp
You better grab ahold of one you desire
Cuz movin’s the only thing gonna quench this fire

When that doghouse bassman starts in choppin’ chords
And boots starts scuffin’ on that hardwood floor
The snare drum kicks in with a train tattoo
you shake it till you break it like your momma used to do

It came from Memphis and from parts below
on a wind that blew in from ‘round Tupelo
It crossed the river on a midnight train
Rolling over muddy tracks wet with rain

Memphis guitar
Thanks so much for your comments, Feter. I'm playing a Fender Telecaster through a Line 6 Pod (bought used for $150). The Pod has an amp module called "Tennesseean" which gives you that twangy-with-reverb Chet Atkins sound.

Delicious
I could imagine this beautiful little ditty growing slowly and turning into a monster-stomping stampede of crazed dancing and big-band hootinanny, but you kept the lid on and let it simmer... a perfect take! Great lyrics, voice, and guitar/harmonica work... very nice!

Great track, you have a real feel for that early Sun Studios kinda sound. Very nice guitar playing.
Cheers!

Luther played the boogie woogie
Sounds like he's playing on this track, too. Wonderful narrative. You probably know this, but you can rent out time at Sun for a ridiculously low price. I'd love to go, but I'm such a hack I'd probably dissolve.

I've been singing and playing since the age of fourteen when my brother Paul was working his way through the Beatle book and needed someone to play with. From Paul I learned to fingerpick, play barre chords, and to sing the melody while he sang harmo... [see more]
