a bit of latin, acoustic and rock.
If I was filling in for Ricky Ricardo at the Tropicana. Something like this would of happened.

Lyrics
One Step Over The Line

hollow intentions fill the well
but sometimes words take a spill
delivered fast and sleazy
some words cut some are greedy
there really isn't anything to say

i buried my head in sand
just to avoid you again
i could crawl under a rock
I'm not in the mood to talk
there really isn't anything to say

the poison in your words they are so unkind
(one step over the line)
the poison in your mind go's over the line
(one step over the line)
the things you say are so sublime

shhh - please be quite
shhh - leave it for another day

the poison in your words they are so unkind
(one step over the line)
the poison in your mind go's over the line
(one step over the line)
the things you say are so sublime

Can't get far away
from the Beatles influence can you Vic? I also hear a little ELO for some reason. But it's still very much a VH song.

Another cool post.

Abrupt start. Is it part of a concept piece? Very cool song. Reminds me of something from a Robert Rodriguez film. Would love to hear some tremolo & reverb effected secondary lead over it as well.

no concept going on here. I think you totally covered that ground. I had at one point thought about adding some tremolo.

a little mix of styles. There are 4 acoustic tracks for this, to fill out the stereo field. the lead guitar at the beginning was a second pass. the other two were first takes, i was really happy about that, usually i might flub a note at the ending and have to do them over.

I think Neil hit it just about right
Definite Beatles influence, always assuming they migrated to England via Mexico City's airport.

Very cool song Vic !

Chris Isaac if I Had...
...to choose any familiar songwriting.

I can also hear that experimentation going on. Nice hooks and ladders-I love when a song is catchy and plays in your head after its done. Those background vocals that swoop are magnificent and taken from the gallery of rock legend

The Tropicana would totally be rocked out by this, love that latin groove and percussion!

...that pic is funny and scary at the same time hehe

mike_d said 2966 days ago (October 29th, 2009)
speakers as big as a car...
I will say that I preferred hearing it on the rental car's audio system over my laptop speakers. When i had listened on the iPhone, the track got about 3/4 of the way through then started skipping/repeating just like a bad record player. Maybe I need a new stylus for my phone?? Seriously though, this did sound excellent in the car- nice job with the mastering!

Hey Lucy!
I do like the Latin strumming and plucking parts and your subtle use of the maracas/shaker.

Your vocals sound great and I like the Shhhh part too. Your blistering lead is always great. One day, you'll set down the drum sticks long enough to learn how to play the guitar. Call me crazy, but I think you have what it takes to be a halfway decent guitarist.

hot chocolate syrup
the chord progressions satisfy like hot chocolate (especially the final unexpected chord drop at the end of the line "...anything, to say"). the singing flows slowly like chocolate syrup over ice cream. the lyrics portray the most dangerously attractive character, the one that is addictively destructive. the guitar work/tone is sublime.

Great
melody turn on the "there really isn't anything to say" bit. I was just going to comment on how I'd like more bass, but I'm listening through my macbook and you get zero bass on these speakers. I'll have to try again with headphones soon. But this rocks. Fred and Ethel are making babies to this song RIGHT NOW.

Who done done you wrong?
Somebody out there ain't gonna like this grave you're digging them with your sharp lyric, but it probably serves them right, eh? Nice "lilt" in the groove, it's got a... let me thing... surreal grayness to it. And I'm glad to get back with you. Your confident, up-front treatment and mix of guitars and vox give me something to shoot for.
