Description
An entry for this year's 60x60 contest. A musical depiction of the C60 molecule, also known as Buckminsterfullerene, or "buckyball" for short.

Four instances of Synplant are playing tone rows and automation sequences that are based on the symmetries of the C60 molecule.

i like that abstractness of this.
reminds me of some of the stuff that Mungo use to do at this site.

I really like what you've done here
very interesting composition. Was it your intention for it to end so abruptly? I realize the time element is part of the challenge.

60 seconds
Yeah, everything is cyclical, so there is no other solution then just to stop.

I like the voicings
And some of the little ornaments you use. (Especially that place where it sounds kind of like a dove cooing.) 60 seconds isn't a lot of time developmentally speaking, but you do a nice job with the 'cycle' idea packing a lot into your minute.

The atom was split at the 1:00m mark!! Very open yet small sound.

Synplant
Is a difficult one to 'control' IMO.... Your result has a pretty nice range of oddball sounds and a slightly unsettling, loping stride. Definitely a worthwhile track; I'll keep my fingers crossed that Rob Voisey feels the same way.

Best,

SJ

Synplant
I think it's one of those synths where you just go with the flow. Rather than looking for a specific sound you let it come with something and say to yourself "Coool!! What can I do with that?"

for 60 seconds
this is great. It's got a really cool erie vibe to it. The way that you made it very interesting. If it was longer I think it would be cool to try and fit some drum fills in there...something like rolls on the floor toms and heavily reverbed. Nice work.

As someone else said, I'd like to hear more. Interesting sounds, and an eerie, slightly ominous vibe. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Wish this went on longer, but I get the constraints... These Symplants make for a somewhat ominous but intriguing sound!

This sounds
like Stockhausen meets Mrs Walter Carlos and they have a good thing going.....umm who is Buckminster Fuller? I have a song book of Harry Nilsson which contains random examples of designs by Buckminster Fuller, sort of futuristic blueprints drawn in a fifties stylised manner...so he is a real Scientist /Engineer? Interesting......I thought that he was a figment of the late Mr Nilsson's imagination ......

Whole tone
patterns always create an interesting combination of "tension" and portent, expanding outward -- yet there is an element of going inward, contemplative. This is an imaginative little gem which I wish were much longer!
