Wild Uinta (MJRF2010)

Description
A storm I experienced while backpacking in the Uninta Mountains in northern Utah, this is my first song, ever. This is the second reworking of this tune. It tends to be more melodic, which is neither good or bad, just different. I think it jams a bit more, in certain ways and is too constraining, on the other hand.

Thanks for stopping by! I couldn't pass by an opportunity for another reunion.

Doug

Lyrics
Wind shaped tree
Stones, cold, gray

Past golden sun
Shade blends dank.

All is dark, cold.
Sharp starlight

Flecks in black lake
Shiver with a sigh.

Love the start
Nice build up and then a cool piece of rock and certainly different.
If this music is to descibe a storm, then that is one wild and hectic storm. The relaxed end surpises and is a lovely change.

Hey Keith
Thanks for the listen and the comments. I tried developing the bass line with my guitar and dropping it an octave. There was an issue with some latency. But all in all it was a comfortable mess!

The end part has changed little over the years.

Howdy Vic
The storm was at night. If you can imagine the craziness of laying in a tent that was bending toward my face with every lightning strike. I probably would have done well to get out of bed!

I'd like to come back to this mix and try pulling back on different tracks at different rates to fade into the quiet.

Thanks for the listen!

There's the calm before the storm,
and then there's the calm after. I really like how you went through the storm and came out in the calm. Unless of course that's actually the eye !

Great entry Doug, thanks for bringing it back and updating it.

Ed!
Yup! The most wicked arrangement was live, naturally. The quiet afterwards was almost thick. It was like a sedative!

Thanks man.

Wild Uinta
jams most definitely. Reminds me a wee bit of Zappa. Who was one of my favorites where the music drives at you simultaneously from different directions. The calm after the storm was my fav part. Well done

I originally had some guitar highlights in that section. But I decided to leave it simple. Thanks for your comments.

Shock and awe
Wild jam. Nice sense of a cold stillness that follows. Nice journey. Love the concept.

Beautiful piece Doug. Very original, I like the contrast between the first and the second part, your vocals are in perfect harmony with the style...

Hey Marc!
I like chaos, but it's difficult to produce, for me. So it becomes a compromise. The second half could easily stand on it's own. I might develop this one with different lyrics, sometime!

contrasts
Loved the chaotic build as the musical storm picks up ferocity, then fades into the second half, that is as melodic and beautiful as the first half is wild and unpredictable. The slow singing of haiku-like verses fits as well. I remember hearing this long ago, and it is a benefit to all to have it brought back into the light.

Wild ride
sounds like one of A7's freakouts in the beginning. I'd like to think that's a good thing. Cool transition - like the sun coming out in the middle of storm. Nice vocals too. Cool piece.

Cool concept, nicely realized
From the wonderful fearsome nightstorm to the intimacy of your singing (in a tent?) this IS wild.

Mikey likes it!
Nice re-working Doug. Really like the Fripp-ish tone you're getting on that lead guitar. Could be a lost track from some mid-70's King Crimson sessions.

Enjoyed!

Be well my friend!

The Intro
has a nice start and brings you in. I like the way this builds. The guitar lead is in command and is very cool, very descriptive of the confusion a storm can make you feel even though I've never experienced one at this level. The calm after the storm is a good way to end. Enjoyed!

Like a storm
Chaotic jamming, but I like the way it holds together and sort of agree with the drums, although everything drags in different directions. I think the shift of pace is a good choice and makes one relax and breath calmly again...
