Description
I'm not much into horoscopes. some people are into it, some are not. it's all well either way.

But some reason it came into my mind when i figured i should get some lyrics going. not so long story even shorter, here is your horoscope for the year. I hope it's all good.

Lyrics
Cosmic Thing

anxious for what the future holds
love and money or a little hope
will there be fortune somewhere down the line
will love come in a nick of time
can this be the year that i shine
should i take chances will i be fine

the starts are aligned
and your house is on the rise
it's just a cosmic thing
it's just a cosmic thing

will i be healthy and have the energy
don't feel motivated anytime today
can i be creative with my psychic force
so says the sign of the archers horse
can i step on people with little remorse
will it come naturally or with force

the starts are aligned
and your house is on the rise
it's just a cosmic thing
it's just a cosmic thing

will i be famous a star of the screen
will i be jobless, living on the street
could it really matter if i never knew
no matter what i always made it thru
it seems so cosmic on another plane
everything is vague, i didn't learn a thing

the starts are aligned
and your house is on the rise
it's just a cosmic thing
it's just a cosmic thing
it's just a cosmic thing
it's just a cosmic thing

Edgy thing!
This one burns and shines. Really like the vocal melody to the verses. Guitar work is appropriately stellar (pun INTENDED). You also totally nailed the mix on this bro. Love it!

Be well friend!

The outlook looks fine to me
if you keep up your normal standards.

Great choice of sounds and clear production and an excellent idea for a song.

Cheers

i was thinking about what should i write for lyrics, for some reason horoscopes popped into my mind. so i googled it, looked at a few, at which point it pretty much wrote itself. maybe 20 minutes, if that. now the horoscope didn't say anything about that happening.

the guitars where a combination of logics amps and outboard gear through a digitech multi pedal board with presets that i set up. it's crazy when you can through dozens and dozens of settings.

Sagittarius
Are you a Sagittarius? Me too. Cosmic...

Can you imagine if you did know the future? Impossible to imagine the lack of motivation to live in the now. Although I'd like to know the future for things like the stock market or other betting games, I'd never want to know the future for anything else.

Love the clarity in the writing, the straight ahead pop feel. The guitar is controlled and does a nice job playing variations on the melody. Thanks for sharing this. You managed worry about the future without sounding paranoid or conspiratorial, which I appreciate. Fun track.

it's the line "so says the sign of the archers horse" that was the give away. Nov 27th.
the only real thing i know about the future is that it comes tomorrow. knowing the future would be great for profit. i so would like to retire today if there was plenty of money in the bank

Cosmically Cool
Your voice sounds quite smooth on this track. So many cool guitars going on.
Very profound words. I always enjoy your lyrics. Although I believe you're know as an axeman around here, I think your strongest talent could be your lyric writing and phrasing.

Your allover song writing skills get overlooked sometimes and thought I'd tip my hat to you in that department. Well done.

Vic, you paint with such a wide palette of guitar tones (all groovy btw :-). Love the straight up rock feel, solid, with lots of interesting hooks and phrasing.

Got some relentless crunch going...
...in those rhythm guitars left and right.... And beyond that, the usual spread of Vic Holman guitar tones...

A thought I had that you can take or leave, for future consideration, is that someday I'd like to hear some longer held notes in the vocals, so that the vocal phrasing isn't right on the quarter or eight notes.... It'd be cool to have that relentless beat in the rhythm with vocals that go over and around, getting staccato here but gliding there... I think it would tend to make your songs more catchy/singable/hummable.... Plus the occasional held notes are cooler for singing harmony over...

Ed
Vic Holman said 2722 days ago (March 6th, 2010)
Thanks Ed.
relentless yes. the rhythm guitars might sound simple at first. i was going for a staccato violin effect heavy palm muting and using the side of a pick with a sliding attack. pretty interesting when you hear them on there own.

yes the vocal approach that you are talking about has been on my mind and is something i would like to start concentrating more on. i don't know how some people can do it so easily.

Dadai.2 said 2721 days ago (March 8th, 2010)
I dig that...
rhythmic rhythm guitar in the background... moves this song along nicely. As usual, there is so much more to like in this song. Vic, though you are a hit machine don't quit your day job, cause if you did the demand for you music would dictate that you would have to tour... which would be great for all your fans... but really, you're too old for that kind of silliness.

So... great tune... with so many cool elements.

There is a noticeable development going on in the Vic department of production and recording. But the songwriting and arrangement are also sounding sharp and very good. I dig that guitar sound, and especially the phat chord at the beginning and in the end.
