L'Aube et l'Espoir
This is beautiful! very haunting melodies over a slightly dark feeling orchestration. lots of interesting instrumental choices and the music drives along very well. welcome to MJ - looks like we'll be hearing all kinds of great music from you!

visions of longing
I can feel the evening lights sparkle on the river that she left on. I can feel the courage well up, that she will return. I can feel the despair and ennui that she may not.

Very nice orchestration choices. Some of the instruments sounds very synthetic (e.g. the clarinet), but others (strings) sound quite good. I am very impressed and excited to have you here at Macjams. I look forward to more music from you.

This account (ic42) contains some of my more experimental things, so you may be more interested in my more classical/symphonic stuff on my "Drakonis" account here. I shall "switch hats" and fave you so I can keep up with your music. Welcome aboard!

ttfn,
Drakonis/ic42

Thank you !
Drakonis, I was just about to drop off for today and I saw your comment and I wanted to drop you a word before I switch off. I was struck by your interpretation. Struck, because what I was thinking when I did this song is so close to what you said in many details. This is a dedicated piece indeed, and there is some thema behind. I will send tomorrow a link to the video of this song, and I will take extensive time to admire your work too. I am also looking forward to share other work with you all and learn from you too ...

I like where you are with this...
The sounds are very warm, almost realistic, orchestrally. The choice of modern sounds work well in the mix. Compositionally, it has a very cinematic quality to it. Very well thought out and not too overstated.

The reverb on the strings reminds me of Jerry Goldsmith's sonic environment.

Great job, and welcome to MacJams!

Peace,
Alimar

Symphony 101
First of all, welcome to MacJams! Magnatone sent me over here for a listen, and I'm so glad she did. On my first listen, I was in agreement with Drakonis, that there were some sounds that seemed to "synthy" to me. But I've listened several times now, and piece in its entirety is a beautiful blend of orchestral and synthesized sounds. The strings are gorgeous. I love the varying moods of the composition, flowing effortlessly in and out of one another. Beautiful. And I'll definitely go check out the video.

Thank you for your kind comments
Hello all, I am so grateful for your comments and interest in my song. I preferred a single reply here, but I will visit and listen to your works individually. I just wanted to comment on the instruments part. Well, actually the way these sound is for two reasons : One is the material I use, which is not quite sophisticated. This is why some instruments are not very realistic. Over time, I plan overcoming this by chosing more adequate tools in the future. Second one is, even though I had great tools, I realize I could do with more experience and skills picking up the right sound, apply the right effects, etc. Here the strings had a strong reverb, and I also liked them most in this piece. I am hoping to make more adequate choices on this too, and what better I could have than listening to your works ? It's lots of learning too. Again, many thanks, for such an encouragement !

Beautifully rich
Hi, I liked very much your composition, especially the change that comes at around 2:16, which creates nice spacious feel that could make nice filmscore. At first I was not sure about the string rhythm section that starts at very beginning and reappears throughout, but than after relistening I have to say that it deffinitely embodies the idea that you put in your comment about the song and gives it the tension and struggle, which is nicely contrasted with the other part that is more victorious and optimistic. I do not comment on the sounds, first it has been already mentioned in previous comments and second it is really not something that displays the musical capacitiess and talents, but rather equpment budget ... your composition sounds really impressive as it is and I am sure it would eaasily get some brighter shine if you had some more expensive Vst at disposal. I am also glad to see someone else using Cubase, there is not much people like that around here, so I hope we could share some insights in the future ... welcome!

L'Aube et I'Espoir
This is nice! I don't listen to classical music much but I really enjoy the instrumentation and all the different sounds. This sounds like it's mixed pretty nicely! I think it could use a bit more bottom end in parts but it's very nice. The composition was great and it kept my interest through the whole piece! Great first post and welcome to Mac Jams!

Bienvenue a MacJams!
While some of the instruments are a little clunky, their tone and presence seems to get better and better as the track progresses. I'm suspecting that when you've done some more of these - with the guidance that some of the more classically minded people here will undoubtedly give should you ask - you will be way ahead of "Symphony 101". This is hauntingly beautiful, and a most enjoyable listen - I love some of the little flourishes you use on some of the instruments.
A really good person to listen to for ideas is Alimar - www.macjams.com/artist/alimar He makes some beautiful (and demanding - on him) music.
Again, welcome to MacJams.

A little Epic Saga piece,
I love pieces like this that start off fairly straightforwardly and then start to build and build until....they have to relent and go back to nice and straight forward. Some great sounds and themes running thriugh this....Oh and welcome to Looney Tunes...I mean Macjams......same things really !!

quite interesting, indeed, I am a big fun of Alan Parsons, it's pretty much what I have as model in the music I'm trying to produce. I am pleased you mentioned that, hopefully I'm on the right track :-)

Hope
Love the "sparkles" at :55, and again at 1:13. I love the way this song started out slightly dark and ominous, and then grew into a very stately and almost regal composition. Hope is like that--often borne from a very dark place. This song expressed that well. And I also love how the song comes full circle!

Synth...Who cares?
The CONTENT of this piece is what is striking to me. You have created a beautiful cinematic score with lots of gentleness and a wonderful build to quite powerful orchestration. This is very well conceived from a compositional standpoint. The "sound" of your plug-ins can always be altered, but right now you have such a good and authentic sense of what all this should sound like. I enjoyed this number very very much and look forward to hearing many more of your things.

This is how
I met Yves. I think I asked if I could write for this. He wanted it to remain an instrumental. But, he gave me a great opportunity to revamp his lyrics for "The Pianist", which I sang while I had a bad cough and cold. But, it had to get made and I wasn't about to let anyone else sing it. Merci, Yves for all the glorious music and for your friendship.
