Description
this year I have been going back into some of my songs and making fixes, remastering and re-cutting some parts here and there. I doubt if I'll repost most of them.

I had actually forgotten about this song. it was originally done back in '07 and sounded a bit to much on the trebly side. I ended up cutting out a mid guitar solo section, dropped the acoustic tracks and added a new acoustic track. re-cut the 4 vocal tracks, redid the drums. and a big clean up overall.

The biggest problem on revisiting this song was that some of the tracks had shifted. and still did when i was re-working this. the midi drum tracks in particular kept advancing a 1/8 note. very weird.

Lyrics
Happy You

got your head in the clouds
you crashed to the ground
sometimes everything
lost or found
and you promised not to look back
a glimps over your shoulder to the past

chorus:
happy you
found your space in this world
happy you
running down a dream, you're so serene
happy you

days without cash
you are counting change
then you realize
you've been counting days
happy face tattoo emblazons your back
does it really matter
as long as you're not trapped

chorus:
happy you
found your space in this world
happy you
running down a dream, you're so serene
happy you

shed all your feathers
and want to settle down
your nested your rested
take on tomorrow
now you no longer need to look back
some feathers in your pocket, just for laughs

chorus:
happy you
found your space in this world
happy you
running down a dream, you're so serene
happy you

So glad...
... to hear this revised version. Killer new tracks and sounding MUCH better, not that the early sounded bad at all! :) You're incredible!

Hi Mark
thanks for the spin.i like noisy stuff. but i also knew some folks might not get into it. i think it was originally intended as a bridge from another song's ending. but i can't remember what the heck it was now.

I remember this Vic
and it puts me in mind of a song from a Rock Opera... sort of 'Art Rock', I think this re-mix and working is a good success and really works. Seems 'cleaner' for want of a better word and it sounds great. I know what you mean too about the drum speeding up thing; I had that a couple of times in the past and never got to the bottom of it., regards M

I'm surprised anyone remembers this. I didn't. usually after a song is done i forget about them for several months or years as in this case.

the moving drum tracks was quite odd. i figured i better bounce the tracks while i had everything in place

Went back and...
...listen to some of the original before this one. Have to say this is cleaner and less busy. Like somewhat more.

Going back to oldies can be brutal work. Nicely done.

I didn't think i would have to put a lot of time in it originally. but a lot had to be redone once i got into the thing. it was like opening up a bee hive.

don't think i heard the original - i'll have a listen next though. so i'm only comparing it to itself (lol) - and it sure sounds great to me! that's weird about the 8th note advancing - add it to the long list of life's mysteries. this is great work, i love your music, and thank you for terrific listen!

i always have a project number for my song files. i thought i was opening up a song that i ddi that was mostly piano (if you can believe that, and just re-cut the vocals) i thought this would of been a fast fix and remastering. but with the drums and other regions moving around it took me several days to get it together. so i showed it... by posting it.

Great tone on the guitars. Seems to be your trademark. The acoustic is a nice flavor here. Vocs sound good here. Production is crisp and well balanced.

Love it
Did not hear the original but just great creativity and execution. You have a great blues sound that really great fused with the pop/rock elements. One minor nit pick, the tremelo on the guitar around 2:30 seems to flutter out of synch a bit.

The best parts of the song are the hard core blues guitar in the beginning and end. Its a lost sound these days and its great to hear it done so well again.

Thanks!
i think it's the delay on that track maybe a cross over on a chord change, i may be to use to it.

well for the leads you can tell who i studied or learned from when i started playing the electric. there was a stronger sense of playing with the chords.

great new tune of yours.

Fat driving sound bed!
I love the great big heavy driving drums on this one.

I also like the way the bass is mixed. It is fat and driving.

Good stuff man!

Leaner is meaner....
I think your songs have more impact when they aren't a non-stop wall of sound... I LOVE the acoustic bits that pop out of the mix in quiet moments throughout this.... Great contrast.... And the thinning of the layered electric guitars leaves them more distinct....

I really like the outro solo, too...

Ed

Vic Holman said 2657 days ago (March 15th, 2010)
Thanks Ed.
the wall of sound was fun for awhile. i've been going back through some older stuff and trimming them down. now that i know how to mix better and get better dynamics going.

I re-cut the acoustic parts a little more cleaner and added a happy tambourine.

Ha ha. i never remember how i played on my originals either.I have to relearn from scratch.

Happy You
I've been away and haven't had a Vic Holman fix in a long time. This is a great song to come back to. I love the guitar work - both electric and acoustic. You did an incredible job of balancing them throughout the song, and giving them each time to do their thing. The dirty, thick opening contrasting with those little acoustic breaks throughout - awesome. Love the lyrics of this one too. I'm very glad you dug this out of wherever it had been hibernating. Excellent tune, Vic.

that intro is sweet. i like your phrasing on this one - straight ahead with more grit and less style than usual. i like the production too, it sounds live. sometimes mj tunes don't translate well to speakers vs headphones, this sounds great out in the wide open. lastly i really like that little acoustic bridge. this is a great tune. your last couple of posts have been some of my favorites.
