mellow...
Jack, this tuning sounds like fun. Did you devise the chords, or did you have a chart to go by?Very pretty...:-) Will it get lyrics?

Hey...
I mistakenly replied via comment below...

It''s a tuning...
that I found which Joni Mitchell used for some of her songs. I just ad-libbed the chords and then put together the progression. No plans. I guess this could get lyrics, but that may be more than I'll get around to doing. Thanks Roxeylee...

They call him mellow fellow

A friend of mine wrote some very inspired words which could possibly float over this. Roxy, we could do a floating duet over Jack's Washburn.

Here's my lyrics...

Well, I wandered off into my own soliloquy (instead of reciting Jack's meditation on grace and justification). Here is my vocal overlay:

I used to love MacJams. Maybe the love has returned.

Very relaxed...
very low-key (sometimes those are the best!) and added some truly excellent things along the way to give it just the right verve and style it needed. Excellent!

I think...

open tunings were made so that unaccomplished guitar players like myself can sound halfway decent. Thanks for the warm comments.

... open the tuning, open the mind, open the tuning, open the mind.... Sounds a bit like Timothy Leary, don't you think?

Sounds great
so far. Nice guitar work. If I tuned my guitar like that I'd be totally lost. Nice work.

Thanks Eddie,
I'm thinking of adding a lead guitar part that weaves its way through the progressions. I started practicing that late yesterday. Maybe I'll even get around to doing it! Thanks again for listening and commenting.

Cool idea Jack - like that progression, and the open tuning makes that acoustic sound fresh to me.

New tunings do often lead to new ideas for me, certainly a different sound just by the nature of the open tuning. Take care and thanks again.

Yummmm
so many possibilities and yet the guitar is a joy to listen to all by itself. I wish I could sing, or for that matter imagine lyrical melody. Great sketch Jack.

Possibilities....
indeed. Although I hand't any thought of this when I posted this yesterday, I hope to add a interweaving guitar lead as a melody. I think that will move the ball down the field on this one. A vocal could definitely work... but at this point a bit more than I am willing to invest time-wise. Though I wouldn't at all be opposed to anyone taking that on. But I imagine we all have enough on our own tables.

Much thanks for visiting and listening.

Lovely sounds coming from your guitar Jack. It's a thrill to discover chords or tunings that brings along "new" sounds to our ears. I can dwell at them for hours when I get into it. Seems like you had one of those moments here:)

dwelling on new sounds...
indeed, Thor. I spent a bunch of time just weaving in and out of various variations with this tuning. Never seemed to tire me. Thanks for stopping by for a listen. And, great new song by you just put up.

Playing guitar the easy way
If you can't reach the note, just tune the string to get the note closer......

Open tunings are fun. They make you discover new sounds. I definitely like the sound you're getting out of this one.

You got that right, the open tunings are always a treat, and usually lead to some interesting chord progressions. I appreciate that you dropped in once more to hear my amateur composition.

Those Zoom H2's....
...seem to have contributed to an awful lot of cool MacJams music....

The tuning here sounds neat.... Between Crosby and Hedges...

This could go in the direction of a cool instrumental, or it could take words....

I'll be eager to hear where this one goes, Jack...

Ed...
H2 rules the impromptu recording world.

Always nice to get your historical perspective on a song and how it sounds. The tuning is a Joni Mitchell tuning (Coyote, and others).

Instrumental is probably where this will go. I don't seem to have the energy to write lyrics these days. And picking up the guitar and plucking out a solo line is just easier... and maybe better?

Much thanks from the west coast to the east...

The introductory chord sounds like James Taylor is about to start singing. Interesting tuning should make for a great song.

nice, relaxing exercise in alternate tuning, not sure where to go with
this , I think.... keep it an instrumental and offer it up for others to play along, might be awesome! No, it will be! Great job.

It's nice of you to drop in and listen. I think your idea of keeping it an instrumental will be my approach, although Richard has already added his vocals to it as "Acoustic Meditation" under artist name Lardo.

really nice chord progressions, very soothing and melodic. A bit of sax might sound nice over them too?

I'm one...
... of those who would barely wanna go beyond a double Drop D. I don't know why but I like the challenge of coming up with new stuff on a standard tuning (Emmanuel drives me nuts so I have to catch up lol).

Here... although it's an open tuning, I still hear Dadai in there. I can see it turned into a full song, though, if there's an intention... I'll keep an eye on your page!

Lovely work, thanks for sharing... :)

Bob6stringer said 2761 days ago (April 30th, 2010)
Where do we go from here?
The first chord let me know this was going to be a great ride. I don't need words. It's enough for me to "listen" to the flow of little inspirations that lead from one chord to the next. When this happens to me, it's as I'm a very happy grove when a little voice says "where do we go from here?" and then a little impulse drives the hands to the next change. So the "byways" (like the road photo) analogy is appropriate.
