Lyrics
Her Painted Face

she is a painting
the light enraptures her
the portrait captures her youth
she caresses every stroke
that makes up her face
in a time where she wants to stay

she is framed very well
she is art in her world
and her art abstracts the world
she is framed
a painted face
she is art in her world
and she lives in a two dimension world

the brush captures her soul
and she lives in the paint
the saturation point denies her age
she denies death
and the ghost and the gift
as long as the painting lives

she is framed very well
she is art in her world
and her art abstracts the world
she is framed
a painted face
she is art in her world
and she lives in a two dimension world

she passed in time
as the painting lived
hanging in eternity day by day

Crazy, but some of my students tell me that I must have a picture of Dorian Grey on my wall. Great song, I really like the lyrics. Vocals & track are smooth! Wtg, little teddy bear!

Nice concept...
Intriguing lyrics... Lovely progression... Endearing vocal delivery... Searing yet sensitive guitar soloing...

Really, really, REALLY love the chorus.

Good one bro!

Be well!

the music had been done for almost a month. i finally got a break in the temperature a few evening ago so i could finally record the vox's. 90 degree temperature's are not good for the computer, so it's been in shut down mode for some time.

A treat for Vic
Glad someone could actually write a song about something. LOL

Distinct Holman sound that all adore so much. The "she is.." parts are my faves.

You framed this one very well my friend. Beautiful guitar work.

The follow up to "Surprise, Surprise" is here! Hurray!

On first listen I'm digging the late 60's British rock vibe here. Kinks, Stones (Her Majesty's Satanic Request), a little Cream (White Room).

The twangy, punchy bass recalls Chris Squire.

This one's off to the iPod!

i forgot to list my schecter 5 string bass. it has emg active pickups w/parametric eq instead of a regular tone knob. pretty versatile in tone. i was thinking it had a touch of kinks to it as well.

Doris Gray
Excellent lyrics, communicated effectively by your trademark singing style. Sounds like a lot of attention went into the production, and it is very well done. Guitars sound great. Nice understated ending.

i do spend a lot of time on the production side. it can be just micro adjustments until everything opens up nicely. seems to take more time then recording the tracks.

Doris Grey
That would be a great title, Doris Grey. It has an added layer of meaning and perspective that would add interest to the lyrical content. I really like the guitar work on this track. You have such a good ear for solid tunes and structure. Love the concept.

it's one of those "doH" moments, doris didn't even come to mind until i was writing the song description.

Does have a strong 60s feel
This could have come off the "Greatest Hits" of a number of those bands, but course it is all your own. Superlative work--the kind of song I hear on here and feel almost ashamed listening to free of charge. Applause!

PS: I have an oil portrait of myself sitting in my attic that is getting younger and prettier every day...

to give the guitars a better diversity i used 3 different electrics. i originally had more jangle guitar through out but had to make some sacrifice and room for the whole mix.

Hi
Always a treat to have a new Vic song. This one was no disappointment. I like the images you paint with your lyrics, and how you enhance them with your choice of graphics.

The marching beat delivers the story in a secure and firm manner.

As usual... I dig the guitar work:)

a touch of 60's
usually is some of that in quite a few songs i do. i did push the vocals back a bit intentionally. i was thinking of them as being framed in the music. oddly enough they sound more up in the mix on speakers.

i appreciate your listen

Channeling The Kinks again? :) I too get the Chris Squire bass reference - a very good thing imho (although Chris would probably have played a million more notes - NOT a criticism!). Makes me want to head for my "Best of The Kinks" double CD - but I have listening to do here ;)

I thought I commented..
... apparently not!

Let me just say that what isn't mentioned enough in your songs are your lyrics, especially in this song. Can I say poetic... insightful... engaging? there, I just did. Your words sometimes are overlooked due to the high standard of your polished performances.

this past month i have been doing some home improvement especially painting walls, so paint was on my mind. it took 3 re-writes to end up here. i started thinking about those old movies or maybe it was twiilight zone episodes that has some vain actress always admiring her portrait, so badda bing badda boom, it finally came together.... i usually dread the lyric part of the process.

Epic treatment of a small slice of life.
Vic, here you come off as a dark, urbane gentleman with an important story, and moral, to tell us about. Pretty epic feel here. That "saturation point" reference got me diving deeper in to the meaning... maximum absorption and concentration... leaves me with multiple images of our "Doris."
