Description
This song was born out of two different musical challenges I gave to myself at two different times.
The first challenge was instrumental....I bought myself the Digitech RP 355 multi-effects pedal and wanted to do something constructive with it. So I gave myself a challenge with my Strat, the Digitech and Garageband. At random, I closed my eyes and scrolled thru my GarageBand's collection of drum loops. Whichever loop I stopped on would be the loop I would have to come up with a guitar track for. So, that's how the guitars and drum tracks came together for this song.

The 2nd challenge happened while I was here in Malaysia....another sleepless, JetLag night (I'm in Kuala Lumpur for the third time!!). Anyway, I wanted to write a song, but I had no musical ideas going on. But I did have that above mentioned guitar and drum loop musical-challenge-song loaded up in Garageband, listening to it. So I challenged myself to write some song lyrics by way of TV. I muted the TV, closed my eyes and hit the channel up button on the remote control. Whatever channel I landed on after I took my finger off the button would be the source of my lyric writing. Well HBO happened to be that channel. As I opened my eyes, I saw Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington and Matthew Broderick wearing Union Soldier Uniforms....the movie was "Glory". My challenge was set. I got to compose lyrics based on what I am seeing in the muted movie.....Thus the lyrics to this song.

Perhaps the greatest challenge of all was mixing this bad boy. I have grown tired and weary of tweaking and tweaking and tweaking it to get a good even mix, so here it is...."Punching Thru".

Lyrics
Punching Thru by PSexNYC 2010

I’m gonna keep trying to fight my way on thru
No matter what they may say or they may do
Now I won’t stop until they drag me away
Cuz my conviction is so strong it will not be swayed

Now watch me rumble
See me move
I will not stumble
I’m punching thru

Some battles I win and some fights I will lose
But glory is mine cuz that’s the path I choose
Problems try to distract me and people try to attack me
I fight hard to hold the line cuz victory will soon be mine

Now watch me rumble
See me move
I will not stumble
I’m punching thru

Persistence for existence must be the only way
Resistance from a distance is the game they like to play

But this is not a game I’m fighting for my life
If they think I’ll lay down they better think twice

Now watch me rumble
See me move
I will not stumble
I’m punching thru

Thank You Angela!!
I kinda like how the lyrics came out too. I've never done this kind of challenge before. I think I read about it somewhere on the internet and just happen to remember it. It also said to try picking an article in a newspaper or magazine and try to create lyrics from it.

Thanks for the support!!

Thanks Bro!!
You know, this song has no bass guitar!! But I am glad you liked the mix! I started mixing at 11pm and just gave up on the whole mess around 6am...I had to be at the office by 9a. So I uploaded it as is, cuz I knew the MJ Community will let me know what's the deal with the mix. I'm glad you like it!!! Thanks for the comment!

cool
I like your method to get the creative juices flowing... man it worked well.
I should try that... with my luck I'd probably end up with a polka drum loop and a Chop Wizard informercial.

Anyway this is a enjoyable tune, cool lyrics, guitar and organ... great singing too... applause!

Oh Nooo, Informercial!!
Funny you mentioned that. Since I have been in Malaysia, I have not seen one infomercial here.....but if they did, I could only imagine the results I would end up with....I'd probably have to change the channel! Thanks for the Applause and the comments!

What!
You've been here 3 years and I never met you??!! What's that about. I don't think either one of us is anti-social. Maybe just to busy. Anyway, I love you stuff and that fact that you give us a look inside you head as you produce your music. It inspires me to revisit the way I think of building my ideas. Love the song and loved the movie too.

Groovy
Great song, it reminds me of the late 80's, just a really cool groove that flows so well. Terrific vocals too, so glad I didn't miss this! Good stuff!
