Don't Fear Me

Description
I woke up this morning, recently having turned 55. I looked in the mirror and didn't like what I saw. I had a vision of myself turning and running from that bloody mirror (convinced that it was wrong, not my vision). This is yet another "Don't feat the Reaper" song.

Just the beginning. I recently ordered a Godin Nylon Synth guitar. I wrote this song as a showcase for the new guitar. It is supposed to arrive Tuesday, but I had to lay the foundation for the tune this morning. I thought I'd post what I had so far.

Lyrics
Don't Fear Me
I am Inevitable
Embrace Me
It's not like you
Have a choice

Life isn't fair
So we must search
For an unfair advantage

We must all run
Tirelessly
Never look back in the mirror

Look, there's a light
at the end of the tunnel
Oh, a very fine light
Light my way

The road up ahead
Is falling away
We must all take flight now

And the mighty beast
That blocks our way
We must all take flight now

The Godin has landed
Love the new guitar. I still need to get the synth, but the guitar sounds great plugged in and is a dream to play.

My art
Life is weird isn't it? I learned long ago that my inspiration stems from fear. I wont go into details but I think you got a little of that today. This is a cool lyric and idea. Kudos

The motivation of fear
You got that right. Nothing motivates better than a fire lit under your ass. Sometimes a good look in the mirror can serve that purpose.

Sparse
But I like the complexity of the guitar parts, I do think the lyrics could have some harmonies to go with it to give it more dimension, Everything else is times and played masterfully great progression in this! I say bring it up another level and polish it off great song!

Harmonies
Yes. I agree. I already have improved the vocal track(s) significantly. I just started this tune Saturday morning and made good progress in the few hours I had to work on it. I'll post updates as I get more time to work on it.

Ahh.....
The old "face in the mirror" syndrome. I'm 57... and sometimes have the same problem. Ha ha...

Interesting rhythm this has. Has a little bit of a Sugarloaf "Green-Eyed Lady" feel; but this is, of course, slightly ominous!

I really like the synth soloing!

Be well friend!

Green eyed lady
Love that song. In fact, I married her. My wife has beautiful green eyes and that song has always been a link between us.

Hey! That's awesome Steve!
Btw, I saw Sugarloaf in late 1970 or early 1971. They opened up for Leon Russell and the headliners of the evening Jethro Tull. Ahh... What a night!

life isn't fair
Fascinating lyrics, as we always expect with a tonestones piece. I love the sparse complexity of this. The drums are mixed back but that snare drum sounds great. I'm also looking forward to the next installation.

Don't Fear Me
No shame in losing the battle to the Reaper, he's undefeated unless you count that time Bill & Ted beat him. Interesting rhythms punctuated by complementary sound choices looking forward to version 2 with the new guitar.

55
Ahhh, that is the new 35. I work at a senior center and I always hear, "You're as old as ya feel"! So true, so true...

Awesome song, I do like the lyrics a lot. The track is very cool as well. Great stuff!

Very cool track - can't wait to hear the new axe
I recently got a Godin Session Strat - and love it. The nylon synth must be awesome.
Digging this tune. What are you playing on it?
BTW - I turned 56 in June - and survived.

getting older kinda
sucks but it sure beats the alternative, lol. I like the syncopated octaves you use in this song. Cool sounding. Off beat and hip. Enjoyed it. The tone is reminiscent of Al DiMeola's heavier stuff like "Race With the Devil"

Touches of Gentle Giant
in your phrasing, chord progressions and timing Steve. I'm a huge fan of theirs, so that's meant as a big compliment. There's also of course a little Bellew in there as well, both in the vocal and soloing.
This is a very enjoyable post - congratulations.

Math + guts = ProgStones!
I see you got Robert Fripp and Greg Lake to join you? Okay, really, you mine prog like it's abundant. When I want to hear an artist explore new ways of doing things, but still wanna hear rock and with a good progressive (and not sleepy!) beat -- and a role for the guitar -- I can always count on you, Steve. I was without a computer for a good three weeks, but I'm (barely starting to do some) catching up here. Killer math joined by equal guts, you really deliver.
