Description
Charles Rissew sent me some great lyrics almost a year ago. I wrote about 90% of this at the time, but never to the point that I thought I was "fnished". My wife recently told me that I had way too many unfinished projects and maybe there are quite a few that are finished enough. She listened to this one and thought it was good enough.

She did make some important comments that I'd like to get into the record.

1: This song isn't about me, is it? My sports car will be canary yellow and probably a porsche. Funny... because her Uncle used to work in the corvette factory...
2: It is too complicated. She says that about all my stuff.

Lyrics
Her life is a dream
It enough to make her scream
Plastic smile, saline breasts
She feels left out , hasnt got them yet
She wants a beach front house, a red corvette
an inground pool and a private jet
All these things are fine to see but
all this shit is not me

CHORUS
Ive got a tan chevette
a kiddie pool
debt, regret but im nobody's fool
dont gimme no lip bout the life I lead
I dont have what you want
but I have what I need

VERSE
She's looking good, tight jeans
Hair wavin causin a scene
Heads turn on a dime
Shes lookin back at me for the last time
She wants a beach front house, a red corvetter
an inground pool and a private jet
All these things are fine to see but
all this shit is not me

I love the rocking shuffle groove. Is it jazz, or rock, or jazz, or maybe prog rock? I don't know. All I know is it's damn good. Love the instrumental section with the dual lead.

Rocking shuffle groove
That seems like the right category. I had a hard time picking one. Thanks.

great keys
love the keyboard work - Hammond B3 - kind of bluesy and Emerson combined somehow?

great lyrics

thanks!

The mighty B3
I've always loved the sound. I remembered the first time I played in a band with a real B3... Way too heavy to lug around. Thank God for simulators.

Nice one Steve
Just love the instrumental parts - the duet in particular is excellent. I'm a sucker for a B3 sound, and this has all I need rhythmically also. I'm with you - a canary Porsche will always be my fav when I reach middle age (again). A Corvette doesn't even register on my "cars I'd like to own" radar!
Love it!

Dueling guitars
I know what you mean about the B3. I feel the same way. This song started with the lyrics from Charles. I really liked them and this the bass and B3 parts just jumped right out at me. I did an initial recording with the bass/B3/drums and vocals last October and shelved it, waiting for the guitar gods to fill me with inspiration.... Really a beer would have done it, but no... I let it sit on the shelf for almost a year.

Then I found my beer, almost a year later. Thats when the guitar parts finally materialized.

I went with it and posted it before I remembered it needed more guitar of the second verse and a much better vocal track... But it least it is out in the wild now. Someday (hopefully less than a year from now) I'll get around to doing a rev on it.

Thanks, Neil.

B3
Thanks. That is a Hammond B3, from the Logic Pro virtual instrument. I really like the sound of it too. I find it really inspirational for blues/rock.

I need what I have...
Thanks for the shuffle. The phrasing is pure Stone. The vocal is even pitchy in the right way...
Well done as usual.

Pitchy vocals
I just can't seem to get comfortable doing straight ahead rock vocals. The guitar, bass and keyboards feel natural to me, but I'm much more comfortable singing jazz or acoustic music.

Glad you like it Daug. It was great fun doing it.

Thanks, Karen
I think she reminding me of the malady I have suffered with all my life: "Too many notes syndrome". There ought to be a fund for that one. I know I need therapy. This song started out as a simple blues song and ended up something I couldn't find a category for. What ya gonna do?

Love the way she struts...
This is great fun, and loved your wife's comments too (they pretty much steal the show)... but back to the music, smirky lyrics, and great great musicianship, as always, funkyprognosis, but just enough traditional swing that I can still follow it (like your wife, I can't handle things that get too complicated, life is bad enough :-)

Funkyprognosis
I like that one. I kind of skirted the traditional blues a bit... I think thats why I had such a hard time classifying this one.

Thanks for the listen.

The kiddie pool
The key is to empty it before it gets too rich, otherwise it can become a nasty science experiment ;)

I agree about the lyrics. They immediately hit me when Charles sent them to me. It turned out really different from what he originally had in mind, but that is the beauty of the collab process.

I don't think
this is too complicated. on the contrary I think it has great flow and no really super abrupt changes.

The rythms stay familiar in the song.

Good job you guys.

Cool Interpretation
I remember this piece, had totally forgotten about it. Your interpretation could not be more different than mine, and it is all the more cooler for it. Hep Cat rock vibe and solid vocals. Excellent work here as always, I am flattered you would use something of mine to create such an original piece.

I have what I need
Way cool music. WAY COOL. Fabulous keyboard work, totally dug it. Love the intro, the groove, the tripping solo. (The vocals are kind of not quite as great, altho I got used to them as the tune went on, and maybe could have been mixed a tad more in the mix. Maybe you could have someone else replace them, cuz this song totally jams and a jammin' singer would make it shine.)

The "I have what I need" is an anthem level clarion call that cannot be said enough. Nice lyrics. The attitude fills ever measure. Really cool vibe. Love this song. Thanks your wife for urging it out of the bullpen!

Thanks, Tobin. Greatly appreciated. I agree about the vocals. They are my first take. I only intended them to be a placeholder, but decided to accept them as is. I had a brief talk with Charles and we're going to try to do another take, maybe as a duet.

Fine vox
I really like your singing on this tune--the excellence of the arrangement and the fine performances speak for themselves, but I think you deliver this with confidence and appropriate swagger.

Too complicated
Hahaha. Yes, I can imagine. Well, that's your style, and I like it. One of your catchiest tunes yet. Catchy? Well, you don't have to be catchy, but this one is nevertheless. Tip o'f the hat to Mr. Rissew for some great lyrics.
