When you meet your Saviour (Poem, Arthur Rice)

Description
This one is a step in a different direction. A couple of weeks ago I was asked to sing for an all-class alumni event. I get these gigs quite often since I sing everything acappella so I don't need any set up. People regard my voice as being quite powerful so I don't usually need a mic either. Well, after the event a lady I've never met before approached me and asked if I could record myself singing a poem that her aging (86) father had penned back in 2000. So I said I'd take a look at it but I since I didn't actually record vocals I might not be able to do it. Well Arthur's condition deteriorated very rapidly and he was taken into hospital so I resolved to buy a mic and try to record his words so that he could hear them set to music. I wandered around for a couple of days trying to come up with melodies that fit the words until I had something workable (I had to rework a couple of verses into a refrain). I began to flesh out the chords and decided to do something full blown orchestral and try to really make it special. I was half way through the work when I got a message that Arthur was critical and It was probable that I wasn't going to finish in time and sadly that proved to be the case. I decided to finish anyway since this was important to his family. Well, I managed to finish the track in time for it to be played at his funeral.

I sought permission to be able to add this to my portfolio to which his family readily agreed.

So... yes this is me singing (the first time on record). Words are by the late H. Arthur Rice copyrighted to his family. Music by Andrew Lawlor.

On a musical note the entire track is built with sounds from Philharmonik.

Lyrics
When the truth shines through
and you see the light, meet your savior
Meet your savior as I met mine

When your hearts full of sorrow
and dread for tomorrow,
meet your savior-meet your
savior as I met mine

When the night turns to day,
and the clouds roll away,
Seek and ye will find,
all glory divine,

When the night turns to day
and clouds roll away, meet your savior
Meet your savior as I met mine

Seek and ye will find
all glory divine,
when you meet your savior
as I met mine.

when you meet your savior
as I, as I, met mine.

Wow
Your voice is really nice. This is a beautiful and uplifting setting. I'm sure the family was gratified that their father's words were so beautifully set to music.

Andrew (Arthur)
I can't begin to tell you how significant this is in the spiritual. As someone who has met the Savior the meanings of Arthur's words bring on a great deal of shining truth. The words and the music set to this bolsters one another. There are angels rejoicing. The best part of the song is that it was never intended to be played as a funeral song but a song of hope. Hope you feel really blessed my friend, because this is a real gift for you (as well as to the family) not given lightly.

Wonderful Andrew
And inspired piece of work my friend. Musically, Lyrically, and Vocally. It' is sad the Arthur didn't get to hear it while he was still alive, but I have faith he did hear it when it was played for him at his funeral. I can hear the Angels singing along with you as you in a heavenly choir, rejoicing in Arthur coming home to Christ.

Wonderful that you did this for the family, and for Arthur.

God Bless you Andrew

Very Traditional
This sounds very traditional and common to what you would expect lyrically and melodically, sung in a church. It would nice if this could be added to the hymnal, shared for others to sing and hear. The song caught my 4 year olds attention as well. He made sure I knew that he liked it. Thanks to the family of Mr. Rice for letting you post this. Fine job and I have to agree you're blessed with a fantastic gift.
