Description
This is actually a earlier version of "Lead With Your Heart" than the one already posted. On this edition, Patrick Feehan (Futzpucker) added his amazing talents- piano, organ, midi drums and mixing. In other words, he did all the heavy lifting!

Happy New Year! Hopefully some totally new music will be coming soon!

Lyrics
Lead With Your Heart- by Adam Clarke

Do What I say
and lead with your heart
don't them them tell you
that you don't matter

try any way
be at ease with yourself
everyone knows you're an angel inside

it won't matter now
and it won't matter then
just open your eyes
and see that I love you

there'll come a time
when we'll be just friends
remember love's to be spent
not for saving

there'll come a day
when the world will be ours
and the promise of friendship and love will be mated

come with me now
into the great beyond
and let your heart come away warmer

it sounds like nonsense
just words that don't rhyme
they mean nothing but I love you

just open your eyes
and lead with your heart
and don't let them tell you
that I don't need you
... and you don't need me

It sounds like a lot of romantic nonsense to me with words that don't rhyme … all done beautifully : ) A sweet song for starting out the new year.

Hi Karen- Happy New Year! As much as I love the version with Patrick and Fran and his bandmates, I've always loved how lush and mellow this sounds with Patrick's touch on the keys and with mixing.

Happy New Year! (btw- looks like an old VW camper in the pic. In 1983 I bought a 1967 Microbus. It was a very cool old rig.)

nice tune
Good message and constructed nicely. Bob Seger could have done this one back in his day, like "Against the wind", that nice strumming all along with the piano tinkling in the betweens.

Lead with your Heart
Uplifting lyrically and emotionally. Like the way you approached it vocally - straight ahead in a manner of speaking. The music sounds terrific. Frames the vocal perfectly. Kudo's to you guys.

Lead with your Heart
This was an odd song to write... at least for me. I started with the progression first- did a rough recording and then recorded a vocal while improvising lyrics... oddly enough, the words didn't change all the much. So odd in the fact that the entire song isn't as spontaneous (since I'd been playing that progression for a long time) as many of mine are.

Of course, my songs just don't come to life until I entrust them to my much more talented musical friends. In that regard, I am very fortunate!

Thanks!

Great Feel
From the opening, bars this just radiated a warm melancholy. This has a real sweetness and delicacy to it. Your voice suits this really well Adam.

Writing...
...is the heaviest of lifting, imo...

Not to minimize Patrick's contribution. It's wonderful. But the writing is where it all originates. The song would never have existed without it.

Congrats on a great tune.

"...love's to be spent, not for saving..."

What a wonderful line...

Nicely laid back
Very Lennonesque melody (obviously a very good thing!) with a simple progression and sparse arrangement.
Just a very cool song - love it all, but especially your vocal Adam. Patrick makes a great contribution as expected.
Best wishes for 2011 to you both.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Sang in high school many years ago- I've been playing guitar on and off for the last twenty years and still don't know what the heck I'm doing. Don't ask me what chords, notes, or keys I'm playing in- I use the force when I play! I wrote my first two... [see more]
