The Maybe Conflict Redux (w/sonnyjim, awigze, eclipse)

Description
A new version of the previously posted "The Maybe Conflict". SonnyJim and I enlisted the help of a couple great horn playing MJ'ers to juice it up a notch. The towering MJ'er Awigze added some amazing sax tracks and then SJ sliced and diced them to suit the song. MJ'er Eclipse added some very cool trumpets and SJ augmented them with the app WiviTrumpet played through his iPhone. The guitar is the plug-in Strum Electric played by SJ. The backing vox are now a mix of us both. Lots of midi, mostly played, a live bass, by moi and now all these cool horns! It has kind of a Saharan Bachelor Pad Magic Carpet Jazz Lounge Journey vibe to it now. Hope you like.

The Maybe Conflict (Redux)
© 2010 racerat & sonnyjim

Now I could bring myself to live in a world of yes
And I might even live in a world of no
But one thing I can't do
I couldn't do it any better than you
Is live in your maybe world
Live in your baby world
Is live in your lazy, hazy, crazy world

Martin Denny gets much hipper
must have taken something - he should take more. Great track guys - really excellent blend of instruments and swell production. Please explain the guitar used here - it sounds great. Likewise the vocal treatment is very happening. Always upping the ante at the house of RR and SJ. Hot bass.

The guitar was created by SonnyJim with the midi plug-in "Strum Electric" by Applied Acoustics. Here's a link to the software:

Guitar
Strum Electric is an awesome plug-in! And it's a tweaker's wet dream: every thing is adjustable from the detuning of each individual string to the pick stiffness (and even the angle it hits the strings at). Since it's a physical modeling synth rather than a sampler, it's highly responsive to midi data manipulation. Changing the lengths and velocities in the piano roll editor can produce hammer on/off effects, palm muting, augmented chords, etc, etc. It's totally amazing.
The vocal treatment is just my voice bumped up an octave with Logic's 'Vocal Transformer'. I was aiming for Bessie Smith, but I think I ended up with Jimmie Somerville....!
Thanks for the props, and if you want/need more info please PM me.

after the 3rd listen
you know, this is really extraordinary you guys! the horns really do take it to a whole new place, and this truly brilliant use of various midi instruments in conjunction with mixing done by somebody who really knows what they're doing makes for a remarkable finished product. this is also wildly addictive - so i agree with everything i said in my first comment, just MORE SO! thanks guys - what COOL FUN!

Thanks for he multiple listens. I've had, oh, let's say probably 200 or so in the full scheme of things. It gets richer actually over time. Matt did a great job of slicing and dicing Awigze's core sax track. I just can't get enough of SJ's Maybelle vocal!

Thanks John,
SJ is always pulling me into the outer realms of experimentation. I've gotten to be quite the old fart and if it wasn't for SJ, I'd just write alt-pop songs all day. Awigze and the enigmatic Eclipse added the awesome icing to the redux of this track. Glad we still have some cool.

That's the beauty of the guitar being midi as well as the harmonica actually. We just duplicated them and then did some timing and variation tweaking- and voila!

horny
This is funky and sexy.... great thumpin' groove and that sax is real slinky. Reminds me kinda of David Holmes soundtrack work. Strum Electric sounds like my next purchase.
And yeah, definately shades of Jimmy Somerville in the vox!

Hey you can't buy Strum Electric, too! Then no one will need my blistering leads anymore!!!...;-(
The sax does add a much warmer and decidedly slinkier sultry vibe the the whole thing. It was SJ's idea to add it, and A's remarkable saxin' style to make it real. Glad you dug.

BUY IT.
Hey Steve, Strum Electric is where it's at! Phil's BL (Blistering Leads) are still un-midi-fiable, he's just not thinking of the freedom he'll have NOT doing all those tiresome rhythm tracks....
Glad you agree with me on the Jimmy Somerville thang ;-)

Saharan Bachelor Pad
Saharan Bachelor Pad Magic Carpet Jazz Lounge Journey vibe is an apt description. Lookin like everyone is diggin this tune so far, but I must pose to you... imagine given this tune already in its greatness and told, 'headphones on, sax reed in mouth and blow.' Man what a trip and absolutely honored to collaborate on this cool tune with some of Macjam's coolest cool kids... :) Now, dang it.... where did I leave my Earth Shoes...?

Art Rock?
That is a new genre for me, never heard of it before, but then I don't get out much :P What a project! That bassline just sucks you right in, as does the percussion track, and the horns are off the hook. I dig the guitar too, and the vocal work. I can honestly say I have never heard music like this before, but I dig it! Good work :)

Art Rock is the catch-all for just about whatever I/we do that I can't pidgeon-hole. Genre's are so limiting and there aren't enough of them to describe the nuances and experimentations. I have also found that if you call something "experimental" you get about 2 hits on the song. People are scared. Art Rock is just right - Art = experimental and Rock = brings in the crowds...;-)

and i like how the song evolves into something jazzy.
is the bongo sound in the end a loop? if yes, i once used the same in one of my songs haha
you guys should be so proud of what you accomplished with this fantasic piece of art. art - that's how i can describe the song!
