HEARTBEAT AWAY

Description
A song I'd thought lost until my buddy Tony Galfano, here on mandolin & backing vocals, found a cassette. Here is also a rare recording of Eamon Murray on sax and backing vocals. Two band members were absent. Can't remember why... :-)) This won't be up for long, folks, as I'd like to re-record it in the studio, so get yourself a bootleg while you can!

HEARTBEAT AWAY - Music & lyrics: Richard H. Jones

I feel reckless tonight
Darlin’, don't wear nothing special for me
We're gonna climb the back roads
Where no one goes
And remember how it feels to be free

I've got a bottle of tequila disguised as a beach ball
There'll be sunrise by the light of the moon
Honey, don't go taking hours to put your make-up on
I can't leave a minute too soon

I feel like a gypsy tonight
Baby, don't even brush your hair
Just be a child again, wild again
Throw away your lady's airs

We'll go down to the water
As the sun sinks down
Watch the stars reflect in the sea
And I'll tell you crazy stories
As I watch your eyes
And see if you believe in me

And maybe…
We’ve got the gift of staying young
We've got some songs that have never been sung
We’ll hear the music the moon-winds play
We're a heartbeat away

A heartbeat away
We're a heartbeat away
Heartbeat away
We're a heartbeat away

Ooh, I feel reckless tonight
So strong I'm all gentle inside
And I gotta have you share
What I'm feeling there
In a heart where nature never died

We'll be laughing at each other ‘cause it’s honest that way
And we'll be quiet when the music begins
And we'll throw all our worries to that western sky
And watch them swept away in the winds

And maybe
We’ve got the gift of staying young
We've got some songs that have never been sung
We’ll hear the music the moon-winds play
We're a heartbeat away

Heartbeat away
We're a heartbeat away
Heartbeat away
We're a heartbeat away
Heartbeat away
We're a heartbeat away

Thanks for the comment. ☺

Very Nice Richard!
Has that Jimmy Buffet feel to it. Worth exploring again and recording. Good lyrics and vocals. Very nice!

Thanks, Jody
Definitely worth re-recording with a whole band, I reckon. So nice to find something one had thought gone forever.

There's something exciting about reviving a song:) I agree that this is certainly worth re-recording with the whole band. It has tons of potential. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Neil,
Raw is good, and hard to keep in the studio. Guess I'll have to get a few beers in if I'm going to redo this. :-))

Can't wait for the update!
Hi Richard. This is definitely worth re-recording. Sounds like an ancient mobile phone recording bootleg at (yes I agree with Jody) a Jimmy Buffet concert. The strong vocals still shine through and the guitar solo sounded impressive. Will be looking out for the update! Warm regards, Peter.

Sorry, bro, the guitar solo was mandolin. The simply awesome Tony Galfano. More of the gig and his solos at this link.

Thanks, Len.
Since I'd (unforgivably) forgotten the song, I guess it can't have gone down to well live, since I could only make a living back then doing what kept the punters happy. I'm really happy it's turned up again, though, because I can re-record it and not give a toss if nobody likes it. :-))

Cheers, Ste
How goes it, our kid. Are you still in Japan or have you sensibly returned to Blighty? I'm guessing by the song title 'Shakes' (which I shall now pop off to listen to) that you're still around. Hope all is well with you and you haven't lost any chinaware. :-))

Quality
It's a rough recording, but you can hear where it could be. You voce is great, as is the tune. Wonderful guitar solo in there! I look forward to the new version!

Great melody
Great to dig up old songs and give them a chance to be heard again. This is a great melody and arrangement. Sounds like a lost gem and has a sort of extra appeal for the fact that it is off an old cassette. Some great guitar as well. Enjoyed Mark
