Description
Uptempo musical piece channeling the surge of imperialism running through contemporary American cultural, although it could just as well refer to Imperial Rome or Star Wars or emperor penguins, I guess.

Structure is very basic: put down the theme. elaborate the theme, introduce a brief break, then return to the theme. All of the music created on a keyboard, except for the percussive drum loops.

scallops
one of the things about synths is how you can highly
tune the timbre of the instrument to meet your
needs- try some sound design

Thanks for commenting.

This is one of my first songs produced with GarageBand, so the instruments
used were mostly new and fresh to me. I've noticed now, several months
later, I'm starting to play around more with tweaking the pre-sets to create
new vibrations and inculcate them into a mix, which represents an exciting
musical development for me. With a little luck, I might get totally carried
away.

Very evocative
of the spirit of manifest destiny - or emperor penguins - I'm not sure which. Figured I'd check out your first post - always find that to be fun. I hear elements prevalent in your later work. Nice to make your acquaintance.

Manifest surprise!
Such a nice surprise to jump on Macjams this morning and discover someone had left a comment on my first posting - especially since it is only the second comment it has received, coming nearly two years after the first one was left. I suppose this is Macjams teaching the value of patience?

I have always liked "Material Imperial," and that's not just because it was one of the first pieces I produced with Garageband. Nor am I trying to pound my own drum. I simple like the sound mix of synths, percussion and ambient effects, I like its forward-driving momentum and steady pace, and I like the way the melody candidly asserts itself with an air of confidence - which I thought was suggestive of an imperial attitude.

That said, I am also amazed at how much I've learned about making music by particpating in this interactive community, picking up new ideas, different approaches and tangible advice from other musicians and composers. It modifies the way one puts together a song. This dog has learned a couple new tricks in the past 22 months!

Born in a Minnesota blizzard, I'm now residing in a coastal heat of Brooklyn, New York City. I recorded my first original composition as a teenager using a reel-to-reel tape recorder back in 1967, and I'm still finding it a creative challenge... [see more]
