Should I Care

Description
This song was written in the early nineties and originally recorded on 4 track tape. This is a digital version but retains the original reversed wave which was achieved by playing the song backwards, note for note and then reversing it. In the case of the tape version, I just turned the tape over!! It's about a guy I worked with in London who gave everything of himself to his welfare work and it asks a few questions.

Lyrics
SHOULD I CARE GRAHAME HICKS

The night sky is from an Asimov novel
Flashing lights indicate new arrivals
Should I smile? Should I cry? Should I care?

Empty main street, a high office tower
A single light burns at this late hour
Should I smile? Should I cry? Should I care?

She turns down the telly, the telephone’s ringing
She’s irritated, Celine Dion’s singing
Should I smile? Should I cry? Should I care?

He thinks he’ll be late, in fact it seems likely
His heart attack is coming on nicely
Should I smile? Should I cry? Should I care?

He’s got to go now, his other phone’s calling
Their marriage collapses, he can’t hear it falling
Should I smile? Should I cry? Should I care?

The
reverse tape is very interesting and makes a nice backdrop for your very nice vocal.... it's a very calming song that gives the impression of travelling along.... I read Asimov too, so appreciate the lyrics...... I would have liked the song a bit longer though, I was enjoying so much, cheers M

He cares enough
to ask the question. I really like the atmosphere in this song. The vocal melody makes me think of XTC Skylarking (huge compliment in my ears). Good work...

thanks for the download :)

Very cool vibe to this
The vocal could be clearer I am glad you gave us the lyrics. Cool song. I really like the backwards wave. It adds a very cool vibe almost like a psychedelic farfisa lol.
Peace

I agree about the vocal. It is too quiet. I'm glad you liked the vibe, anyway. So thanks very much.

Catchy...
Hi Grahame. Sorry I am a bit late in commenting. Been away for a few days. Quality lyrics and the reverse effect is interesting. Quite catchy. Perhaps a bridge or an instrumental break might have rounded it out a bit? Enjoyed. Regards, Peter.

Thanks Peter - and here am I 5 days later getting back to you after a storming Easter break in the sun - yes sun - in England in Spring!!Understand what you mean about a bridge or instrumental. I do get a bit stuck in the mud once I've written something.

A really interesting effect
using the reversed sounds.

I really liked the lyrics and you're right, they do have a message but I can't answer the question...

Cheers

Dick
