Description
Woah, I think I just made something 'funky'!?!
After another long break from posting I thought I'd finally update you all on this track. I'm REALLY excited - it's got a lot of energy and it benefits from a more stripped-back production (and less of my dearly beloved reverb) as well as some more precise playing. Anyway, I hope it strikes a chord with a few of you.

thanks
I appreciate the positive comments. I've learnt a great lesson from this track and I'm gonna go back and have another look at the amount of reverb I've applied to the other songs in this project - it may help to help to solve some 'crowding' issues :)

If Indie Rock and R&B had a love child it would be this song. The clean guitar tone over the funky bass sounds great. Tight & tasty playing, strong vocals & production

Thanks Dave
Thanks for your positive comment, but it does raise the question, "If Indie Rock and R&B had a love child, who would raise it?" Neither seems a particularly responsible parent.

Limits are good. Really dig the vibe, very boppy. The clarity produced from the limits is clean as day. The song really shines. Like the slightly less "washed in 'verb" landscape in this one. Excellent bass work, very funky I have to say for you. I was thinking with the Japanese title I was in for another panoramic soundscape, but WTF, I was surprised! The lead section at 2:50 is so pro and so killer, tasty finger picking my man. DL for sure. A real DanT keeper! Big Thumbs Up!

Hey there Phillip
thanks for the detail you put into your comments - very glad you liked it. when you talking about limits, are you referring to a kind of compression? (noob question) because I think I might have slammed things a little hard in the master.

limits
Dan
No. By 'limits' I meant the "stripped-back" production and general restraint in the number of instruments you used in the piece. I like the simplicity.

Unique
Hi Dan. The clarity and space you have developed in this mix/master is amazing. The funky bass lines really drive it along. The song has a unique character that is refreshing. Nice lead break too. Enjoyed, Peter.

yeah, I found this one had a momentum of its own, which was really helpful in selling what is really quite an unusual song structure (for me, at least). thanks a lot for listening and leaving such positive comments.

Catchy
Nice construction. I like the way you embedded the lyrics. Funky bass line is a refreshingly unexpected addition. The arrangement and production are sparse, and I think that works here. Nice change into 2:50. The guitar parts are just right. Well done.

Those electric guitar lines in the intro are sooooo hooky! I love the funky groove. I like the left turn this takes harmonically in the B section. That bass line is funky! The mandocello adds a unique sound to this pop/rock treat. Great guitar solo! Tasteful note choices and great phrasing.

I like the sound you got on this song and I like the song too although it sounds a little disjointed to me. But still it's very interesting. The lead break is cool too.

Hi Dan
Not totally my kind of stuff, but even I can hear you've taken a few steps production wise with this. So keep on moving - and maybe you'll come back to some more ambient songs later on :-)

Take care,
Henke

Cool stuff. Like the the chordal progression especially the chorus-bridge.
Great groovin' bass line and real too. Nice placement of the drums. This even gets better as the song progresses. Yah ... enjoyed.

Excellent lead in - precise guitars with a great tone, as seen again in the solo later in the song. Vocal and harmonies work well. I like what you've done with the drums, too. The crisp bass is excellent. Nice light and shade to the arrangement. Much enjoyed!
