Description
(I uploaded this earlier today and there was a glitch and the song wouldn't play... so here I am again) I payed music in rock and folk groups in my 20s and early 30s. Then life happens and music... a part of my soul... is essentially reduced to "Wheels On Th Bus" and"Puff The Magic Dragon" in the living room. When I ran into my old friend Paul (aka Pablatone) he encouraged me to start up again... I wasn't really sure I could do it anymore... let alone write. This song popped up at about 4:00 am after seeing an old friend play live and somewhat haunted by it all. I guess in the end we always have our music and we ought to feel lucky for that.

This is with my group That Evening Sun and is a work in progress for our cd which I hope we finish one of these days...

Lyrics
Lucky
Words and music by Steve Kindel
Intro: (tempo reminds me of Broken Arrow)
In January I felt lucky, and went out to seize the day
Then February rolled around and I seemed to lose my way
And in March it felt like the rain came down almost every single day
And then lucky seemed to me so far away

When April’s reckless fool awoke, too late to make it pay
The winter rains and soaked terrain and a paralyzed refrain
So I packed my dreams with my reckless means and I put them in a jar
And in May I could not remember where they are

(Chorus)
And it seems as if the years rolled by like seasons in a day
And lucky was to me so far away

I’ve taken turns down forgotten roads and I’ve promised streets of gold
And I’ve scraped myself out of the hole I dug so long ago
When I think of all the things I’ve tried and all the “could have beens”
I feel lucky that I can try them once again

And it seems as if the years roll by like seasons in a day
And it seems that I have been lucky anyway
So when summer turns to autumn, I’ll wipe the dust off of that jar
I’ll feel lucky to be right where we are
And it seems as if the years roll by like seasons in a day

I’ll feel lucky
I ‘ve been lucky
I feel lucky to be singin’ once again

Sweet melody really well sung. Comfortable and tasty folk arrangement. Cool harmonies, harmonica, lead and bass. Enjoy your singing a lot. Harp a little too out front on last choruses
but you probably know that.

Harmonica
Thanks John. yes this particular mix was cut for our bass player. who is going to play with some of his dynamics during that last verse along with that harmonica part... Once that is done we'll remix and the harp part will be pulled back.

It's pretty
cool to see how the song transforms as different people add their parts in. Good tune Brah, keep it up.

Jimmy Buffett?
Well not even close... but if I had 1/10 of his budget... we'd all be in business. :-)

Thanks!

Nice!
Love the guitar in this, and the harmonica is effective, too, giving it a wistful, aching quality.

Just catching the harmonies now, too.

Sounds nicely produced and put together. Bit of a pro touch? Not that i would know!

Nice post. Thank you

Cheers now

Well we'd all like to think we have that potential. My buddy Pablo is getting pretty good with Logic... the arrangement is certainly a team effort. Thanks.

Strong imagery in the lyrics: "April’s reckless fool awoke, too late to make it pay", "packed my dreams with my reckless means and I put them in a jar". Strong vocal & harmonies. Tasty guitar line & tone.

It is wonderful when folks pay attention to the lyrics. Thanks. That's my friend Paul Silva on the guitar playing a sweet Taylor 714.

Good song!
Good song! Strong vocal work and catchy melody. The instrumentation is good too but the mix seems a bit busy to me. Hopefully you can create some space around the instruments with clever use of panning, reverb and EQ tweaks. The harp volume issue has been identified. I will be interested to hear the final mix. Regards, Peter.

Instrumentation
Great feedback Peter. I appreciate you giving it a listen. I really like this song but have really struggled with the arrangement. I write on the acoustic and sometimes my own rhythm guitar is so busy that I don't leave enough for the others. I may try just dropping the rhythm out of the mix (or way back in the mix) to make room for the others. I think panning and eq/compression etc will help as well. We haven't got to that stage of the mix yet so I'm sure there will be a bit of experimenting to do. You comments will be taken to heart.
