Lyrics
You take what you want – dip your hands in the font of desire
You say you’re aware and that you really care - you’re a liar
You brim with pride, enjoy the ride
Don’t care which side you satisfy

You’re deaf and you’re blind so it’s not in your mind to confess
That each way you look at it your life’s one horrible mess
You’re wading through the residue
Alluding to a life you knew

You may know that you gotta go
But you should take it all a little slow
And stop living your life in a bubble
You don’t need to cut and hurry
It’s so much nicer not to worry
There’s a light at the end of the trouble

It’s sad but it’s true, you have one narrow view in your world
Too long in the tooth, you can’t handle the truth of your world
The hours fly, you age and die
Not wondering why the years slipped by

There’s a light at the end, at the end of the trouble.

Brilliantly done Julian! Very well written song. I love the arrangement, and the trumpet adds wonderful color. I did find myself longing for a dynamic build during the second pre-chorus (about 1.30)...maybe strings...nevertheless. A beautiful thing my friend.

Hey Julian, great to have another hackneybloke song for the ipod. This stripped back tune is great. You give yourself a vocal workout and sail through with flying colours. Steve's trumpet work is just magic and blends in beautifully with the song. Enjoyed, as always. Take care, Peter.

End of the Trouble
The subtle piano notes at the start and the end draw you in and take you out . Very nice quality to your voce. I really like the simplicity of this. The acoustic is sweet but melancholy. I can hear why you waited for a trumpet . It really adds to the feel of this melody. The bridge or chorus has a nice change with doubling the vocals and putting them on each side of your head. Nice picture you have painted here.

Just did a search
of my emails and saw that the first time I heard this song was 10.1.10, so nearly 18 months ago.
I really admire your patience and being able to wait until something is as good as it can be before publishing.
This wait was totally worthwhile, I have always loved the song and now the production values and the addition of the trumpet have made it perfection to my ears.
Downloaded, of course, thanks.
Cheers
Len

Oh!
-Love the piano mixed with the neat guitars at the start.
-The trumpet is nicely played and is mixed perfectly and sits so well.
-Fine arrangement, lyrics and bom bom bom ending.
-Your vocal is swell! Really soars in the airy chorus.

It's like a mix of Coldplay and Simon & Garfunkel but still pure Hackneydude.

Excellent song Julian!

julian, this is extraordinary! you lyrical gifts are just marvelous. but then you additionally play guitar beautifully and have a voice that takes me to shades of james taylor or paul simon. steve nails the trumpet - i love when the chorus comes in, cool ideas with echo and this is all mixed to perfection. every time i think you can't possibly impress me more, you do! thanks for the download - this will be enjoyed many times during motorcycle trips this summer!

Light
A jewel of a piece, Julian. Lyrics are airtight & beautifully dovetailed. Love the hook line...Light at the end of the...Trouble. Clever boy. Melody line is coolness incarnate and pleasingly unpredictable. The horn fugue & subsequent bigger voice/bridge section are exciting. I hear a vulnerability in your voice (as you go into high register) that I hadn't heard before. Lovely. FAB ending. Those last bass notes are very sly indeed.

so fine
very fine intro sets this up beautifully.
the guitar pattern at 1:00 is a nice touch.
the very intimate nowhere to hide vocal swings between the highs and lows with enviable ease. nice change up at the chorus - really like the trumpet behind you there as well as the twinned trumpets near the end. this is a good write, and you've done a swell job bringing it to life. enjoyed your efforts!

as always Julian. you have a way of selling your music to the listener through the sound of your voice. I particularly enjoyed the rhyming pattens on this. Confess ess ess ess haha - a lovely surprise as was the trumpet and the sharp chorus.
Considering the accompaniment is quite constant and linear the song has a very creative melody.

End of the Trouble
You are a constant reminder to me that a song doesn't have to have all the production bells and whistles to be great. The trumpet is the perfect accompaniment to your guitar and vox. I love how the bass and piano came into the song - maybe could have come in earlier - that would have been cool as well. Nonetheless very enjoyable piece, Julian - thanks!

Julian
these lyrics border genius, they cut right through me, enlightenment is such an intangible, so many different lights, so many false lights, sheep in wolves clothing, but if you look past the person, past the facade especially our own, look at the heart, is there love?, bitter or sweet, a little of both?, usually skewed one way or the other, but sometimes very bitter, well that's what your words get me thinking about, beautiful! You almost made me cry!
And this vocal is perfectly delivered with complete sincerity, love the trumpet, no idea how you heard that, but very cool! Signature hackneybloke bridge which I love to pieces! You're awesome!

This gets better and better
as the song unfolds. Nice touches everywhere - guitar riffing, echo fx at just the right part, and the trumpet - that was inspired. By the time you get to the chorus I'm bought in completely. Brilliant lyrics too.

Thanks for the addition to my iTunes library.

Cheers,
Doug

wonderful
guitar part. I really liked all the backing instrumentals, and the vocals were very pretty. I wonder what would happen if you just stuck to the age-old guitar/vocal combo? Although the piano and trumpet worked well, I found myself craving a more stripped down version. Great work, though!

great biting lyrics
This inspires me for the next song I'm going to put up, yours is the first real social human commentary song on macjams I've heard that I can relate to. A light at the end of the trouble is an excellent line. On the constructive front, you have good vocal pipes but you don't probably don't need to hold your notes as long even though it seems like the thing to do, that could be disorienting to some listeners. Anyway I do enjoy this kind of rebellious in your face song.

End Of The Trouble
This is so perfect, I can't get over it. Taken aback by the echo repeats at first, but I got over myself (the purist in me). The lyrics are gorgeous and the guitar is so astoundingly simple and moving. I was bracing for the trumpet to disturb the peace, but it was deftly mixed and reverb-ed that it was like a velvet cloth that laid out on the table. DL'd and fav'd!

Sneaky-good!
Stripped-down, sincere (if uneasy for the target of the lyrics) arrangement, yet lacks nothing. Except this is a much cleaner sound. Then Steve's trumpet... also clear. Great multi-vocal bridge following that, you're a great songwriter, performer and producer again, here. Interesting tunnel/trouble thing going on. Sneaky-good build on the arrangement.

If I climbed in a time machine, and emerged in the seventies.. to have Crosby and Stills ask me: who might mesh well with us? .. I'd drop your name. Surely you would have towed the line. Selfishly, however, I'm glad this didn't happen: We might have never heard 'Our House,' or 'Right Between the Eyes.. and most likely one wouldn't find you placing songs like this on MacJams for download!

I'm pretty lazy about getting around to listening to MJ's music. I have to remember to check in more often.

I like your songwriting style. It's pretty direct and you can definitely get the theme of the song, but there is just enough left over to leave the song open to personal interpretation. I wonder if the people I think about when listening to the lyrics are the same ones you wrote it for.
