Description
This is one of two Jeff Lorber-inspired pieces on my Autumn Breeze CD. I wanted to explore an uplifting, funky feel; and I was experimenting with pedal points; one bass note with lots of chords floating over it; it gave me the feeling of lift, of flight, and so it came. Some bluesy twists in the bridge for flavor, and voila. This one came pretty quickly and easily. I LOVE the shredding guitar solo by my mate Jimmy Dacey; it makes me feel like one of those shots where the camera is mounted o the underbelly of a helicopter that’s low-flying really fast, and then passes over the edge of a cliff and suddenly, you’re soaring… Features multi-Emmy® and Grammy® winner Chris Vadala on soprano sax and flute...

Coolness
Okay, cheesy comment warning: This reminds me of those 80's sitcoms that I absolutely loved to watch!

This is truly awesome, so professional sounding. Hats off to you gentlemen!

I could easily
imagine this as the opening theme tune for a lighthearted TV Drama or such.... excellent work and presentation.... the playing of the instruments and the writing is so pro.... great work, regards M

I take that as a compliment, because Mike Post is a big influence of mine, and there are a couple of tidbits of that influence purposefully injected into this song... :)

An apt title, it really does impart that feeling.
Terrific bed, and the sax and guitar work is outstanding. Mix is just great.

ic42 said 2262 days ago (June 14th, 2011)
no white noise...
however, there's a feeling of Peter White jazz work here. Chris does wonders with the sax and flute here. The guitar work is indeed dizzying. The drum work really underpins the whole thing and is tastefully perfectly mixed. I can make nothing but good noise about this, an uplifting listen.

wow Llarion
this is really nicely done. i have to say that this is not an area that I have any expertise in, but it sounds great. for some reason it makes me think of my mom rocking Chuck Mangione (and a glass of white wine) back in the day. great track.

Thanks Michael!
You nailed the demographic exactly... My stuff is inextricably linked to Mangione; he is my single biggest musical influence... and Chris Vadala, the sax/flute player on this, was Chuck's reed player from 1975-1990... :)

smooth and city stylings
This is a hard kind of music for me to relate to since it's so distant to what I usually listen to. The guitar part was the most enjoyable for me. Song reminds me of city and nightlife and a little of Michael McDonald, I can imagine a Friday night with friends and wine and freedom in the air.

A helicopter ride without all that engine noise. A peaceful upbeat flight of simple freedom. Fab soprano sax. Great mix. Truly enjoyable smooth jazz. Really nice. Thanks for sharing this.

First off that soprano sax tone is heavenly. This whole song is so jazzy it just grooves along so nice with everything mixed so well. Yes that is a fine guitar solo. I think my only comment is the drums which are nicely placed and work fine in the mix but I would have liked to here them a little brighter and maybe a little more jazzier with off beats on the ride cymbal bell. Music is subjective though. This is real pro stuff!

If I had the drum chops to do that, I probably would have; but I was pretty much playing at my limit with that little paradiddle thing I was doing... :) :) I have some dependency issues with my right hand... Thanks for the feedback, though, and for the listen! :)

Hi Phil....
Another great track. Dynamic and sounding very, very good.

Everyone's performance fits perfectly together and makes the whole a 'total experience' to relax into.

Take care.

Very smooth jazz!
I love the catchy riff that holds this together. That guitar solo is a stunner - reminds of when Larry Carlton gets going in the solo of Hill Street Blues! The ebb and flow of the arrangement keeps interest all the way through. Much enjoyed!

Emmy, Grammy,....
I'd say that was well deserved. Your friend is very talented. Guitar solo is cool too, though a tad short.

The rest of the arrangement is well done, stays out of the way of the soloists, yet is interesting on its own. Good drum work, and I like those off-beat accents on the bass.
