Description
I've gone back a bit to a "wall of sound" kind of sound - lots of everything and all of it very loud. It tok Logic a while to think about this one while bouncing it - 42 tracks total: 18 vocal, 12 guitar - lots and lots and lots of effects on both. Especially reverb. I do like my reverb.

It's a bit moody. A bit of a contemplation about who we are once we log on to the Interwebs.

It should be played very loud. Maybe in the dark. Maybe with a little bourbon.

Enjoy.

Metameme
©2011 Joseph Gurner

Who I am will probably change tomorrow
Shadows form with every give and take
Can’t disconnect the world I try to follow
Can’t turn away. I have to change my face

Time slowly falls through my fingers
Falling, falling, falling from the sky to the sky
Stranger’s eyes can’t take away my solace
Stranger’s hands can’t guide me to the place I am

Who am I from day to day
Who am I from day to day
Who am I from day to day
Who am I from day to day

Folding darkness can’t be calculated
It runs along my fingers til it numbs the pain
My other face smiles at all my failings
Writing numbers all along the wall

Tell me who I am tell me what my life is for
Sing it to earth and the stars and sky
Fill the mold to form my body
Tell the world to change who I am

Who am I from day to day
Who am I from day to day
Who am I from day to day
Who am I from day to day

ooh joe - this is very cool! i played it very loud, but not in the dark and no bourbon - and still it was awesome! 42 tracks - very impressive sir - each one doing your bidding just right!

I often wonder...
Do the tracks really do my bidding or do they just trick me into thinking that while, in reality, I'm doing their bidding? Am I a puppet, unknowingly bowing to the whims of the music? We may never know...

I think there might be a song in that line of thought....

Thanks Karen! Glad you enjoyed it, even though there was no bourbon. :)

The intro alone was a great ride! I listen through earbuds, so not too loud! I don't drink, so no bourbon! Oh....and the lights are on. This still sounds great!

The intro
was fun to do. I loaded a bunch of guitar noises into Audacity and had a little fun with them. Still just beginning to play around with it, but it's truly awesome for a free program.

Glad you liked the tune, even in the light. Thanks for stopping by!

Never too early for bourbon!
Especially during football season (not quite there, but almost.)

I love working on something like this and having it cranking out through my studio speakers. The family and dog, however, don't enjoy it quite as much...

Thanks for stopping by!

Reverb
well it is very effective. I like this direction and the wall of sound is reminiscent of the others writing about walls. This is my favourite track of your now.

Back to the 90s
In the early 90s I was a big fan of bands like Lush and Slowdive. They had the great, wide, lush sounds, just full of guitars, keyboards and vocals. Grinding guitars, but such a smooth sound wall. That's what I was going for here and I think I got close.

Glad you like the tune. Appreciate you taking the time to listen.

Very enjoyable. I loved the wall of sound, and it never got out of hand. The groove was meditative, and your vocals went very well with the music. My only "beef" was that this tune needed thicker drums--something that had a heavier pulse. That's just me, though. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for listening!
I agree with your "beef." The drums were definitely lacking, partly because I could never really get them to sound right. For most of the track, I overlapped two different drum tracks, neither of which was very thick. I didn't put near as much into the drums tracks as I did the others, but drums are usually my weakest area.

Glad you enjoyed the tune. Thanks for taking a listen!

day to day
I like what you've done with this. The composition is tight -- it makes sense. You latch onto anthemic sounding sections. Good lyrics and vocals. The wall of sound is an interesting approach, since this could also be done as an acoustic guitar number. I prefer the big sound that you're going after, but I have to agree with Cpl. Beef that the drums could maybe become part of the wall. They seem to be sitting in their own --- quieter --- space. But still.... The "day to day" section and the outro are both great. Could have gone on for awhile, driving it home. Well done.

Wide
as the sky, great themes, with Floyd-like (for me a very good thing!) vocals.

Interesting throughout. i can imagine it took a long time to put together.

Enjoyed.

Reminds me a bit of the Smashing Pumpkins. The tune is definitely hard rock but still has an ability to lull you into a calm mood. I enjoyed this, and I have never heard a shoegazer tune before - cool!
