Description
Patrick texted me and he was sitting on his porch. Feelin inspired for some porch music I guess...So we wrote a song using our cell phones for brainstorming the lyrics. HIs computer died so he let me do the mando part, and the singing and everything else. I guess I'll need to go get him some beer too and deliver it to him. This is dedicated to the folks in Tahoka, Texas where my momma was born during those dustbowl days.
It all went like this:

Lyrics
So Oh pissin Hackberry
Your'e so blue
Oh pissin Hackberry
who would know but you?

He used to explode the sky to see if it would rain
And when it didnt he would describe the pain.

Hackberry and his wife, Honey
used to feed the babies down by the creek
'neath the bridge that crossed
the dry buffalo waller

It's just a bad location
But if you have salvation
it would have rained and rained

Sweet Holy Rain of His lovin' waters
Please flow acrost this land again
And if it dont I wont listen to
Hackberry again

But it didnt rain for a long 5 years
and the guvment had to teach us how to plow
and kill bugs
And they threw in the crawdads
and I pulled up the rug.

so Hackberry, Hackberry-
Get on down the road
Goes someplace else where there
aint enough
suffrin'

Get on down the road.

I really enjoyed that. Tells a compelling story as any folk song worth a damn would. Nice melodies.

"It's just a bad location
But if you have salvation
it would have rained and rained"

I love that lyric in particular. The whistling is a very nice touch.

The whistlin
I nearly deleted that. I couldn't think how the song should go at that point. So I started to whistle. Glad I kept it in. Thanks all.
