Breaking Down (the bummer song) - word association challenge

Description
I wrote this song over a month ago when I was experimenting with my electric bass/cello conversion. At that time I was at an extremely low level of confidence in my ability to do anything about the general dysfunction of the world around me (including MJ). I never posted it once I got it out of my system. I no longer feel the way I did and I'm doing everything I can to take positive action as often as possible.
This song features the bass/cello modifcation as well as ebow guitar. Thanks to Karen, Bryn, and Michael for lending ears, advice and support during it's production. BTW - this is the latest version before I gave up on the song - not necessarily the final mix.

Broken downer
Textures galore grace this melancholy song. This is a great example of "art therapy". I like the Eno-ish feel.

Thanks for the download :)

Thanks papag
It was indeed therapeutic - though it made me feel even more miserable for a while.

Breaking Down
oh how I LOVE this song! it turned out so well Kevin - that bass being a cello is just incredible. This gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, and it's wonderful to hear this most recent version. Your vox sounds great! Thanks for letting me in on this while you were developing it, I'm very honored by that!

Breaking down
This has the "bud signature" sound that I love so much. Very nice experiment with bass/cello conversion (I remember you mentioning about it).

I am also very shy about writing on world's condition, dysfunction, etc - I always hesitate if my point is correct, or if my view is complete, but yes, one has to get it out of the system. What better way for an artist than expressing it through music ? Beautiful work Kevin, I love it.

Hi Yves
I was so tired of anyone being right or wrong - as if there's any clear line between us. We all have more in common than not. Thanks for dropping by.

Wow
What a great song. Really dig the drums (a bit crushed loop?), vocals and the distortion. The cello come to great use. On my fifth listen now and this has got to be my favourite of yours. Sounds pretty much final to me, although the sweet 2:30 - 2:50 instrumental part could perhaps have been longer (perhaps along with a build up) because I like it so much ;)

Great tune. Love the wall of Bud sound here. Did you steal these lyrics from my head? A common theme in the universe for a millennia I suppose.

Bummer
Very evocative, dark track. I really like the sonic landscape you've created. I dig the noise against more melodic ballad elements. Lyrically, I always prefer metaphor to more direct "I'm so bummed statements", but can totally relate to your message here.

mellowonic substance
A very nice listen, that is contemplative. I'm not sure what the word association challenge is, but I know this song is reflective. A good capture of the emotional state you were in. Downloaded and fav'd. You have a great talent imo and it shows. Keep positive, and always love the love in what you do-if that makes any sense.

Aw, Kevin,
questioning keeps us honest. You wrote something that is appropriate for the general state of the world. It is far from perfect but you know you can always get a different perspective. Growing pains explains a lot of it. Pessimists can't find anything good but often they can't deny it isn't that bad. Optimists search for the good in the bad. There may not be much but sometimes a little is enough. I hope things look up for you. Well done. Thanks.

Very satisfying...
Atmospheric, moody track, Kevin. But for all that it is musically very satisfying. The bass cello and the the distorted ebow guitar give the song a very distinctive flavour. Good post! Regards, Peter.

Breaking Down
Spent the second listen focusing on the lyrics! Love them, particularly the final line! Great instrumental textures! I like the light tremolo effect on the heavily distorted guitar. It amazes me how that effect can add subtle rhythmic movement to sustained chords.

I'll get around to everyone individually eventually - but at the moment I am spending most of my time at Zuccotti Park with Occupy Wall Street and get very little time to be here. My apathy and depression are gone. My fire and hope are at an all time high. I pray that tomorrow does not end in violence - Mayor Bloomberg has threatened us with eviction.

Great song!
I meant to comment yesterday, started too, but got lost in something. I love the sound of this, really, and your experiment with the string are far more better than mine thus far, sounds really "fat"! Even though distorted and powerful you keep the nice melody and vocals... The only thing is I felt the song could be longer...but it is very, very good and somewhat different from the other work I've heard from you!

doing this song was cathartic.... and I must say it is a very atmospheric performance with all the right insinuations (if that's the word) and sounds for times or moods we all sometimes come up against...... good job Bud, regards M

You have something of hypnotic way about your music Bud that is quite different and was very well received here--the guitar work is a standout and your vocal helps sell this very well. Thanks again!

man this is good
I love your more downtempo stuff, it has a great joy division feel, love that rush of guitar noise that introduces the drums and then hangs around, punctuated by the little arpeggios (very 'edge'-like of you). Great melancholy tune. Happily (the irony!) downloaded

Very nice alt rock feel. Chosen sounds complement each other well. I like that right channel guitar, that sustain lasts forever. The mood of the backer fits the mood of the lyric.
