Lyrics
If I could go back to the past, I'd change it
Change everything around, or at least rearrange it
In a parallel world I was never bad
On a parallel earth you were never sad
Some things are better left unsaid
The words that leave your heart for dead
But fate is fixed and time's an arrow
The tunnel to the future's narrow
Destiny lies on the edge of a knife
The trivial act that can change your life
The ego considers itself alone
And plunges us into the negative zone

Time Machine
Real nice mix. Like the pop quality of this tune. Great guitar parts.I like the slide ... Nice driving bass and general bottom is solid. Good vocals . Well composed parts! Excellent!

Egad
Thanks, Mr Zooks. I consulted my mate Keith, who has more recording experience than I do, and the results can be heard by comparing this with the previous version. I'm pleased with it, and am thinking about getting it professionally mastered to see what happens. I'm not sure if a GB version warrants that, but it's only $20 or so, so what the heck.

The trivial act
Indeed. Well, you completed this in a most satisfying way. It sounds great. The changes all work nicely. Vocals are just right. Very well done, sir.

Doctor Who?
Thank you. High praise from such a seasoned MacJammer. Now I need to get the 90's and the noughties out of my system so I can do the eleventies.

Nice one Graham!
As Stan says, the bottom is really solid, and the rest of the mix sounds good too. There's something about the vocals that jars a little - I think it's excessive sibilance. Maybe you could EQ that out of the way a bit (or perhaps it's a matter of reducing compression a tad. It becomes less obvious as the song progresses - maybe I'm just being precious :)
A really good song with some nice playing and thoughtful vocal work. I reckon that for $20 it might be worth getting someone to do a pro job on it and see what happens.
Like it!

Spot on
Thanks, Neil. I noticed the same thing and tried to EQ it out, to no avail. It's the iMac mike, however, and all things considered it's remarkable that it sounds okay at all. I used to use a proper mike (a Shure) and never got very good results, so on a whim I started using the built - in one on the iMac. Loads better! One day I'll get a better one, (I hear the Snowballs are very good), but until then I'll just have to put up with Auntie Sibilance.

For an iMac mic
it's very good indeed. Now I know the story, I can only say "congratulations!".

Thanks. Mark was a hero. (Check out the Oink! Facebook group for more). I hope his ghost digs this one. I wouldn't mind being haunted if he does like it, which gives me an idea for another song.

There is coolness here :)
Love the vibe here in this piece. Reminds me of some classic bands of old. Great production and guitar work. The vocals are sweet to my ears. This peaks my interest :)

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Ms Girl. I'm still trying to be the Police, when even the Police have stopped. But what the heck, it's fun!

Really polished song...
Hi Graham. Sounds very good to me as is. Really polished song. The vocal quality you are getting out of the iMac internal mic is pretty impressive but I would save the $20 and put it towards a Snowball, or better still, a condensor mic and audio interface. You will be surprised at the jump in quality. Take care, Peter.

That's a good suggestion. I'll ask Santa for a Snowball, and hope he knows what I mean.

I've done the same thing
many times, usually getting distracted by the song itself. As I indicated earlier, I worked on the suggestions of a friend in the UK, thus speeding up the process. Now I'm busy saving up for a proper mike. I'm very happy you like it, Sam.

I was lost in
Pink Floyd moments, drifting with your artful musicianship. This seems to have every corner covered, a wonderful array of sound bites with fitting lyrics. Good job.

I must admit I was thinking Police when I did this one, but maybe the slide bits have some Floyd in them. I'm happy you enjoyed it, anyhow.

Those
are some terrific lyrics, Mark and yourself. What a super sound. Catchy chorus/hook. The clock ticking was appropriate and got more of the message across. Thank you. :)

Mr Rodgers
was very good with words, and was one of the first people I knew who regularly quoted from pop culture. In the verse you've got Star Trek ("Time's Arrow"), The Time tunnel and the Fantastic four (negative zone). He was equally comfortable with Shakespeare. What a guy. We all miss him.
Thank you for listening, Char, and don't forget the acapulco version.
