Description
This song started a while ago, and I did some work on it as spring approached in Australia. I had recorded it, then I heard an MJ track that Loob had worked on which involved a horns section. I thought they would suit this song, which is supposed to be a celebration of spring and new life. I asked Freddy to be involved, and he took the song to a whole new level, first by his drumming/percussion, then by adding an improved bass line, then the horns, and finally by getting Christine and Kristine involved for backing vocals. I can’t thank him enough – he is an outstanding musician! The work of Christine and Kristine is also, for me, a joy to listen to.

So what you have here is a much richer version of the song.

The song ends with the sound of kookaburras laughing. These birds are common in Australia, and there’s a pair of them in trees over the road from where I live – I hear them every morning when I wake up!

I hope you enjoy the song – especially if you live in the northern hemisphere and are heading for cold weather!

Lyrics
Golden-coloured day
by Philip Gardner

In the springtime when the air begins to warm
And the trees have buds of green and grow again
The hours that were winter and the nights that were the rain
Have gone away

Chorus
Now you know I feel good and smile good morning
Good morning to my golden-coloured day [x 2]

We are walking through the rhythms and the harmonies
Hand in hand we’re talking to the sky
The icy winds of winter and the chill that froze the land
Have gone away

Chorus

Instrumental

So we picked a blossom growing by the road
We laughed and threw it high into the air
We caught it for the springtime and we kept it for a dream
We hoped would stay

Chorus

It was a great pleasure working with you on this Phil.
I am stoked to work on the next gem you've got cooking. Your writing pretty much implied and inspired all the ideas we worked up together. It pretty much arranged itself here with it's feel. Simple and joyful. Quite a picture you've painted with sound! Much enjoyed my friend!

It's all the better for what you did with the song, Freddy! You brought to it elements that are well beyond my expertise - thanks again!

Affirming...
Positive, affirming song, Philip. Like the way it turned out. Has a child-like, wonderment feel to it. Freddy came through with the goods, as always, and Christine/Kristine provided a nice addition to your vocals. Kudos to all. Regards, Peter.

Springtime
Nice, clean & bright mix. Very nice. It is quite the "Feel Good" tune for sure. Nice mellow guitar work, the horns are a nice touch. Great vocal backing backing yours up.

Fantastic song and a perfect mix. Love the backing vocals with your smooth voice Philip. A little reminiscent of Leonard Cohen with the backing vocals. Fred did a great job and I quite like what he did with the midi horns ... it suites the song. Very nice guitar work. And I thought the birds did a wonderful performance!
Cheers

Thanks, Stan. Pleased you like the vocal elements, which are the driving thing in this song, I guess. Fred is a remarkable man - not much gets past him when he's listening to something! Yes, those birds - I still smile when I hear the kookaburras, even though some days I don't appreciate their noisy call first thing in the morning.

Thanks
I appreciate the comments, Feter. The "whole sound" that you refer to is mainly Freddy's work. His eye for musical detail added just what was needed just where it was needed. For me, I was sort of like listening to a new song as he added the various elements. And I think it's the first time in my life I've had two female harmony singers backing up the vocals! Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.
