Description
OK ... I sometimes figure out melodies with a keyboard and then figure it out on my guitar which is really my instrument. When I put this melody down with the keys I ended up just adding brass and a bit of flute and vibes. At that point I thought it doesn't need a guitar or a bass guitar. I have never done a tune without some stringed instrument. This has my friend Neil Raynsford playing real drums! This was my attempt at a sultry tune.

Smooth stylin'
It may be sultry Stan: I wouldn't know ;-) But the vibes, drums and vocals are terrific. It's all terrific but maybe you could post the lyrics: these old ears have trouble picking out the words from the other sounds sometimes.

Look ma, no strings....
What? No stringed instruments? Just kidding :-) Great to hear you extend your talent into other genres. Sultry it is and the brass, flute and vibes are a treat. Neil's real drums add an additional touch of class. Another gadzooks D/L for my growing collection. Thanks, Stan. Regards, Peter.

Peter!
Thanks ... I'm not much of piano player but I can beat out a few chords and melodies. It helps when I'm stuck finding melodies in my comfort zone-guitar. Thanks for listening!
Cheers

Fabulously cool. Takes me to a place that is filled with memories of friends I remember as being real cool. This music is produced flawlessly. The horns are down for their crown. Just to know that cats like you are on this site says something about MacJams. Too cool.

Smooth
The overall feel is smooth and enticing! The drums and bass are very solid. Always good to hear a real drummer - a reminder of what loops don't do! I like the way you introduce the various instruments - they're not overdone, they add interest and variety. Easy vocal. You are an extraordinary musician, Stan! Thanks for the download. (Agree about posting the words on the site - I tend to listen to all the instruments and at the end realise I haven't really pieced the song together. Subsequent listenings fix that, of course.)

Hi Philip,
Thanks again for your comments and support. I agree ... a live drummer is the best. I have a part time trio, bass guitar and drums and there is nothing that compares to that feeling you get when you connect with each other and fall into a groove. Live music will always be the best to me. Thanks again Philip.
Cheers

You amaze me...
I was going to say you should write a book called "Stan for Dummies" so the rest of us could come at least close to doing what you do, but the vital ingredient, namely your formidable and incredible talent, is something a book could give someone. I love how this pulsates and shines (in part due to that great brass work--what do you use for that sound?! It is terrific!) Your vocal, the melody line, the lyrics, just perfect Stan--and Mr. Raynsford ain't no slouch either! I don't often gush this much, but it's easy to do with your work. Thanks again! Michael

Love the tune. It struck me as a smooth 80s pop song by the likes of Spandau Ballet or Naked Eyes. The all midi arrangement (except drums) is surprisingly organic. That's thanks to your excellent musicality. The phrasing of the flute is particularly excellent.

flute
is such a "delicate" sound in an accent that compliments this well at the intro

You hit the sultry target, this reminds me of a Sade tune. Vibes, flute, upright bass go together in a very classic way. Nicely done.

oh yeah stan.....this is cool. i was wondering where you were going to go with the vocal progression....but you kept it interesting and going forward. cool horns. great vocal.....really assured...falling off a log. incredibly pro sounding mix....love that little vibraphone noodle at 2.25 (i love vibes). the flute sounds real. neil nails the drums. i love this. crap ending - ha. i wanted a nice drum flourish, some shimmering cymbal and a get out on the kick. so....near perfection :)
